As much as I can imagine how fun it would be driving my GT4 in the snow, two things keep me from doing it (but maybe once I'll try it for the hell of it):

1) I don't want to chance 26 year old, non-galvanised steel to road debris and salt/sand.

2) I don't trust anybody on the road in the snow. Everybody forgets what its like at the first sign of snow and you see dozens of 4X4's/SUV's littered in the ditch (and sometimes in your back bumper).

I'll remind though, that my car has Pirelli P4000's and these are all-season, so I'm prepared if I'm so brave.

I have a xke roadster and I could relate to that scene in Apollo 13 where the capsule was so cold there was frost on all the guages.. that is a typical winter day inthe roadster witht he heat blasting...you can actually warm up b taking the top down.. but the xke in summer is like the capsule on reentry (and I have the rare oem factory a/c (very rare indeed snce althaough all the parts are there the a/c seems non-existant) I took the xke on a ski trip once (this thing has a manual choke remember - appropraitely named since that is what my girlfriend was doing to me as we sat very early in the morning in the freezing cold car as I pulled the choke trying to start that ferocious twin cam inline six))
I took the top down and had teh skiis standing up behind the seats...I go to Italy skiing and nothing i cooler than seeing a ferrari with tire chains (required) and a ski rack dusted with snow up in the mountains. Can you really call yourself and your ferrari a "driver" if you don't use it all year round (Ok, you weterners and southerners can drive all year -- go ahead make me green with envy -- but you will never know the thrill of putting some 300 Horses down through 255/45 rear tires on a icy/snowy roadway to pass a snowplow.)

Ferrari Owners tip:If you have a driveway, you can plow your driveway with your 308' euro chin spoiler! that is yet another way to justify these crazy purchases.

I came across a web site not long ago of a gour of guys that drive their ferraris in the snow, the pics were really cool.

Sam, you crack me up! My Lotus isn't so bad in the cold, but oh boy, those hot days...I need a drain plug in the floor for the sweat! I still drive it all the time in season though. As for winter excitement: I can do a 180 in my Europa on two flakes of snow. She is quite the garage queen if the roads are wet.

Good for you Sam. Everyone thinks I am crazy when I take mine out in the rain or snow...the question is, why would anyone be willing to suffer through anything else? OK, I admit to taking the truck out this last week when the roads where flooded out but it just isn't as much fun. We should put snow photos up in our profiles...

As for the heat in summer, cold in winter, I have fixed mine by moving to a more temperate climate!

thanks, jmg,

I will try and get those fixes done before the first snow flies (yes, brothers I am insane enough to drive my cabriolet in the snow and ice)...you really don't know how exciting driving a Ferrari can be until you do it in the snow and ice!

Still can't figure out how a (non british) car cockpit can be so damn hot in the summer yet so damn cold in the winter....

There are a couple of things that I did on my 92 to fix the leaks.
First, the windshield roof gasket (where the windshield meets the gasket but before the top) tends to dry out and pull away from the windshield. Open your top, clean between the gasket and the windshield header and apply black silicone gasket sealant/adhesive, close the top and in 24 hours, you have a good seal here. I don't remember what I used but 3M and another are available at most parts stores and come in clear & black.
Second common leakage is where the roof meets this gasket on the back side, in my case, I had both problems. The roof latches can be adjusted via the latch thumbscrew (undo your latch and look up...) remember that to make it tighter, you want your latch to move back.
I did both of these and never had a leak again until the windows on the passenger side were shattered by the tree. :-(

Clark, I bought mine through G.T. Car Parts. 623-780-2200. It was very reasonable and identical to the orig. Give them a call and let us know what the price is. Right now I can't remember, only that I was pleased with the price.

I thought for sure my 308s targa top would leak in the rain. I also thought I would never find out because I don't drive in the rain. After getting caught in two pretty good rain storms I am happy to say the top didn't leak.

A dry Ferrari mondial convert .... or even a targa 308 .... very hard to come by Unless you live in a desert.

OK, JMG...

How, oh how did you fix the leaks on a mondial.

Mine leaks at the corners, i.e the tops of the A pillars on both driver and passenger side (depending on which way you turn) cause water collects on the top rail at teh head rail of the top and finds its way around intothe cockpit.

If you replaced that huge big as# rubber at teh head of the windshield ..let me kno how you did it and any tips would be helpful.

A dry mondial...would be a dream come true.

Brett,

Do you remember how much that piece was?

Stu,

If you can find out where they got the rubber that would be great. It leaks around the latches on the roof and the seal is not good along the top of the window.

I got that same trim from Algar Ferrari. Not expensive at all. Just pulled off the old trim and pressed the new one on (afte cutting down to right length). Don't even have to glue it cause it's a pressure fit. Makes the top fit a lot nicer like Stu said. I have a leak on my 85 at the top of the driver's side A pillar, I guess the next thing is to replace that piece across the top front, that's a little trickier though from the looks of it.

Is your 85 a GTS?

I replaced the seal that goes all around the doors and the back of my GTS. Now the top fits as tight as can be and no leaks and also no squeeks!! Only drag is that it's SO tight it's a b*tch to latch the top in place - but once it's on - it's on! Not too expensive either.

I had it done at a local convert. top repair shop so I don't know exactly where the rubber trim came from, but I could probably find out if you'd like. I think, after looking at it done, that I could have easily done the work myself, so you don't necessarily need to take it somewhere for the work. Good luck!

Where does it leak? I had/have problems with Mondial Cab but have been able to fix them.

I have a 85 308. When it rains hard it leaks pretty bad? Any suggestions on replacing the rubber seal or using an aftermarket piece? I know this is common but any help would be great
