I've replaced the oil temp sender on my 308. As I recall, there NO gasket, just a tapered fitting. The original sender had some pipe thread tape on it, so I did likewise and put a few wraps on it.
Wondered after, if the tape would effect conductivity and perhaps prevent the sender from working, but it works fine.

I know what you're talking about, I think this is indeed the temp sensor. It probably has a copper washer on it like the drain plug. Most automotive stores should have these washers, just bring the old one and match it up. I would make it as tight as you make the drain plug.

I put my 85 GTS QV up on jack stands last night an crawled under to do an oil change and inspection. The finned sump cover on the bottom of the engine was covered with a thin film of oil (I haven't seen any spots on the garage floor, so the leak is small). I noticed a trail of oil from around a sensor that screws into the front side of the oil reservoir (just to the right of the shift linkage feed thru). I assume this is the oil temp sensor. In any case, I put a 21mm open end wrench on it, and it turned easily(tightened). I didn't want to over tighten it, and since I'm going to be draining the oil, I'd like to know:
1. Should I change the seal?
If Yes --
2. What kind of seal is on this sensor housing (copper ring, silcone o'ring?)
3. What size is the seal?
4. Where can I get one(i.e., auto parts store or do I need to go to a Ferrari dealer)?
5. What torque should it be tightened to?
