Hey Nev and everyone else,

I bought these fuel line clamps (hose pinchers) a year ago and they are perfect for any car and their fairly inexpensive. Check out this site.

I was trying to remember who it was that told me about using vice grips - now I remember, it was Magoo!! Thanks again, it worked great. I just used a rag to soften the teeth of the grips.

To bee safe , I wrap the jaws of the vice grip with elec. tape a number of times so the sharp edges won't come through and cut the hose.

I took a piece of ½" wood dowel and sliced it in half along its length (about an inch long). I clamped the hose with these pieces of dowel so that the round surfaces clamped the hose (meanwhile the flats of the pieces sat firmly in the clamp). The round surface doesn't damage the hose (unlike the sharp edges of the clamp or vice-grip).

Its a good excuse to now replace those hoses!

Not if the hose is in good condition. If it does damage it, then it needed replacing anyway.

Unless the fuel line is old and nonflexable, you can pinch it off do not clamp tightly, you only want to stop the fuel flow.

Doesn't "clamping" the hose like that damage it ?

A good trick is to close off the rubber hose using "vice-grips". Clamp the hose closed with the grips and you can change away! Good luck

Plug the hose somewhere. If you could do it quick then the hose coming out of the tank and and into the fuel pump is easily accesible, but it's a pretty big hose so it would literally pour out until it was plugged. I usually plug the fuel accumulator by taking off the hose and sticking a blunt pencil in there and taping it in.

How do you replace the fuel filter on a 308GTS carb without losing the entire contents of your fuel tank ?!?

It's the canister type, but as soon as I start to remove any nut or bolt to open it it, vast amounts of petrol comes puthering out .... and doesn't stop ! :-)

Looking at it, it's connected via a 6" hose directly to the bottom of the LHS fuel tank ....

Thanks
