What you have described sounds more like the pilot bearing than the release bearing. The pilot bearing is located in the end of the crankshaft and centers the output shaft. The pilot bearing can make a noise when the clutch is depressed but will stop when you let off the clutch. It is often overlooked as a source of a clutch noise. Also if it seizes up the clutch will not disengage easily. |

Ok, my car is in for an oil change and replacement of the thermostatic sensor. I also asked them to look into why I was getting squeaking sometimes when engaging the clutch. It only seemed to happen when there was the combination of throttle and partially engaged clutch. It would go away when after moving fast enoungh, I would disengage the clutch, let the noise go away and then engage the clutch fully again before giving it gas. The answer was that it's a throwout bearing and I shouldn't worry about it. When it fails it won't do any damage and the cost of fixing it will be the same, even after it fails. Can someone tell me all about the throwout bearing? Thanks |
