Hi.Are you talking about the air induction sucking type sound when you have the passanger's side window down under acceleration?Thats just the air flow sensor flap opening and sucking the air into the engine and making power! The bypass pipes make a diffrence as long as your muffler part of the exhaust is not contaminated from a cat con that has gone bad!I recomend the Techroline additive in the K jetronic Fuel injected Ferrari's.It is the one Bosch recomends that is avalible in the US market, there is a Fantasic German additive for the bosch system but its hard to find.I can get it,It is very simular to the Techroline. The O rings in the fuel distribuitor are sensitive to allot of chemicals found in allot of additives in the United States so be Very careful,or you could cause some serious grief.Nick Scianna. |

It might be the butterfly valves opening up. Sounds more like a jet engine in back of me above 4,000rpms. |

I have a '85 308GTSqv and it doesn't make any whistling noises. My Jeep Wrangler (carbureted) makes a slight hiss at low rpms when I take my foot of the gas (it doesn't do it at idle, only when the engine is slowing the vehicle down). That 104-105 octane gas is supposed to be pretty good for burning off carbon buildups and cleaning out any other deposits. If I come across it I will probably put a little in. Those products like engine restore and fuel injector cleaner, etc. that they sell at most automotive stores are supposed to be pretty good, they're not going to dramatically change anything, but they are proven to be good once in awhile. I too am going to put cheater pipes in where my cats are. They aren't supposed to really increase the noise level that much and they give a little horsepower boost and you don't have to worry about cat fires and that cats plugging the muffler then. I am going to get mine from Nick Scianna (www.nicksforzaferrari.com) he makes them from T-304 stainless and they are only like $250. I have bought other parts from him and I can assure you that he is the best Ferrari parts/service guy (as well as a great Ferraristi) that I have come across, and I have come across quite a few of them. Good Luck |

I have the exact same model, and when I enquired at my local dealership, was told that they all make this metallic whistling sound! Don't know if it is really true? |

The only additives I have ever added to the gas was aircraft gasoline (105 octane). Runs REALLY smooth. Only cut it with pump gas, don't run it straight. This stuff burns hot and rapidly (suited for aircraft which run a narrow rev range and lower oxygen levels from altitude). But mixed with pump gas boosts the octane level a considerable degree. Nick's Forza Ferrari makes cheater pipes for exhaust systems. His web address is at the "links" to the left. |

Sorry, the car is actually an '84 QV. Trying to type too fast. Thanks |

I'm new to the list and have searched the posts and archives but cannot pinpoint the answer. The car is an '85 308QV. I am getting a whistle when the throttle is about 1/4 way depressed. At first I thought it was rpm based and figured it came from the exhaust, but after driving around on a nice day with the windows down, I realized it came from throttle position, regardless of rpm. Any thoughts? Also, are there any gas additives that are reccommended such as an occasional octane boost or Chevron Techron? As a previous Porsche owner, many people reccommended Chevron Techron. One last question. How much louder is a QV with a cat bypass? I am concerned more about my neighbors getting upset with too loud of a car. My cat is original and I feel that this might be an inexpensive alternative to free up the breathing a little. Where would you reccommend I purchase one? Thanks Doug M |
