I think I get it now. If I shim the lower hinge plate, that should take the slack out of the upper hinge pin (where the problem is)...I'm headed to the garage to see what kind of shim stock I have laying around...

Thanks!

The door part of the hinge is welded to the door, the only way to adjust it ( other than bending it ) is to shim it. You don't need to remove it, just loosen the 3 allen bolts put the shim stock behind and retighten and check for correct fit.

I thought about the 2x4 bending the hinges too! I just couldn't bring myself to do it, though. I like the shim idea, but I think my problem would require me to remove a small sliver of metal from the hinge plate that attaches to the a-pillar (I don't see how the hinge attaches to the door itself). Thanks for the ideas guys!

I had the same probelm on the passenger side, could not adjust the striker enough to aline the door. The bottom hinge was worn a little, I couldn't get the pin out either. Solution I shimmed behind the plate , a piece of 20ga sheet did the trick. Door is now alined and opens/closes well and looks correct.

When the door on my '72 International Travelall sagged, I just opened the door, put a 2x4 on the sill, ran the board under the door and lifted! It worked really well, but I guess that's too primitive of a method for this car.

Mike,
A similar problem exists on my 328 whereby I have not figured out how to remove the door on my passenger's side. In my case the the hinges are tight but the door sags I bit. I have been unable to figure out how to adjust the door so it lines up. I hope you are able to figure out how to remove your pins. Good luck.

Yes, the door was supported with a scissors jack until I could physically see some of the stress relieved in the hinge. I removed one circlip from each pin, as the grease fitting end has a lip and no clip. I tried to remove by hammering the circlip side since it doesn't look like the grease fitting will go through the hinge....

Thanks for the response.

Grande, First of all did you support the door properly like with a scissors jack? Second are you sure it doesn't have a small "C" clip under the pin like the door stop pins.

I am attempting to replace the hinge pins on my 328. When I open the door, it kinda sags a bit and there seems to be an awful lot of play in the hinge pin. Problem is, I tried knocking the crap out of the pin with a deadblow and a brass drift (removed the circlips and was supporting the door appropriately) but the darn thing didn't budge. Anyone ever do this? Are these pins tapered or go in only one way? Do I have to break out the liquid N2 and freeze the booger? Any thoughts? The new pins seem to be non-tapered, but these are also "updated" pins (whatever that means) and may be slightly different. I read some of the posts here about the Mondial hinge pins and the popping sound so I'm a little apprehensive now...

Thanks in advance.

Mike
