If the headers were cracked, you'd hear a popping/snapping noise on deceleration all the time (irregardless of warming up or not).

But I wouldn't be surprised if its the heat-shield on the headers that makes the "tickey" noise.

The headers are still replaced by dealers as a emissons warranty. The noise sounds like the header might be leaking, but the they normaly continue to make noise after warm up. As far as it being a secret, not by FNA or F-SpA standards. They fixed the problem on the '99 cars for the most part. And the header that you get will be the updated design....

There is a problem with some 355 that cook the headers and they will crack inside of the stainless heatshielding, one of those "secret warranty" deals, some were replaced by dealers at no chrge. Otherwise look for expert fab shop or pay the FNA $$$.

The comment about the a/c belt is a good one. My TR did this too, usually after washing the engine. If you have one, use a mechanic's stethoscope and metal probe on various items to pinpoint the sound origin.

Have experienced a similar noise on the 308 QV. Upon startup, there's a "clackity-clackity-clack" noise eminating from the front passenger side of the engine. Did a visual inspection, but nothing looks out of the ordinary. The noise goes away after the engine has been running for about a minute at the most. Also, this does not seem to have any affect on the driveablity of the F-car whatsoever.

Was talking to a local shop, Omega, the other day about having them perform a good deal of the major maintenance in the future -- he mentioned that it could be related to some sort of air pump, etc. connecting to the the intake plenum; but he'd have to have a good look-see to know for certain. I plan on having that looked at soon.

Sorry to not be of much help, though.

Don't know about 355's, but on 308's and 328's the ticking noise is usually the A/C belt.....very weird as it sounds nothing like a V-belt noise.....verified this by spraying belt dressing on a car on the hoist while it was running.

I had the exactly same noise in my 328GTS.
The noise came if I was not driving the car everyday and it stoped completly after warming up.
I was so afraid that I took the car to the garage to have the belts changed.
I do not know yet if the problem was the belts or not.

I have a 97 355 Spider that has around 5600 miles. I noticed after starting it this week a little ticking sound from the drivers side engine compartment that sounds like an exhaust leak. It diminishes after warming up. Any ideas?
