I gave a quick tap to each of them and they came right off. They get stuck on the gaskets. Don't go animalistic though like Magoo warned. They're just a little seized and need a tap to loosen them. |

John, As on my 308 GTS the cap seals were tight. Caution must be used in removing them. Don't apply any hard blows to the cap or you will be buying a new one. Pull and turn is the best method. |

How do you remove the dist. caps on a 308GTS? I've removed the screws but the caps won't come off! Any sugg? |

Should be replaced. Check "Keyword Search" in the archives. |

Hey, I have a 308, so by definition my oil HAS leaked into my distributor caps through that seal there over the camshaft! :-) Seriously, that is a hard seal to get perfect...it's kind of a 50/50 thing. Anyone have any tried and true techniques? But I think it would take a lot of oil for a long time to affect the integrity of the cap. Yea/Nay? -Matt |

No need? Wait until the camshaft leaks into it! |

Matt, I believe that this was previously posted and somebody used (I think) Lucas ignition screws, yes you have to be careful with these screws. Magoo, can you help me on this? |

You know, at least for the QV dist. caps (which is all I'm familiar with), there is no need to ever replace the distributor cap (unless it has a crack or some other physical problem). There HAS to be a source for the brass screws that go into the wires and the contacts and that button/spring in the middle. Anyone ever found a source for these parts? -Matt '85 Euro 308 |

Ed, I could use them. How much would you sell them for? Thanks. |

I have a couple of 82 308 distributor caps and rotors and coils and 1 ignition box if anyone ever needs them. |

Not unless you increase the secondary voltage. Otherwise the 7mm wires are fine. |

Does 8mm wire help out a great deal? |

I have 8mm wires and they do fit if the outer casing at the end is shaved down. |

BTW, I have heard you can get 8 mm wires to fit in the dist. cap by carefully shaving the ends down with a sharp knife. |

The caps ARE mighty pricey. Try T.Rutlands for a discount price on OEM ones. The only optional one available is the reproductions offered at Ferraripartexchange.com Unsure of the quality, being a repro, so use at your own risk...Of course, they may be just fine. |

The wires can easily be changed by removing the screw inside the cap at each terminal. I do not know of a cross reference. The wires are 7mm on 2 valve engines and I believe the 4 valve ones use an 8mm however I am not positive. |

Is there a cross reference for the 308 distributor cap? Also can the plug wires be removed from the cap and changed out. Are they 8mm? |
