The cam pulleys might be made of plastic depending on the year of your car. If these are plastic, they are definitely brittle. |

If you can change the belts then the cam seals are not too much more trouble. The cams are not as brittle as some may lead you to believe. Just loosen the cam bearing caps a little at a time and you should have no trouble. You will have to remove the cam pulleys to get the seals off and reset the cam timing. Observe torque specs and do the rear head first since it is better and easier to get the experience on. |

Looking for advice / info on difficulty,procedures & tricks? on replacement of cam seals on 81 308 gtsi.I have read procedure on changing timing belts,I think i can handle it,but from what i read - cams are very brittle? Don't know if i want to mess with them.do they have to be removed to change seals?Any other advice on a major tune-up would be greatly appreciated.THANKS!!!DON Anyone know a good mechanic in Northern New jersey?I can be e-mailed @ [email protected] THANKS AGAIN! |
