I believe I found the problem. Magoo you were on the right track. I took the black fuse block out of the car, tightened all the rivits, tightened all of the connectors on the ends of the wires and reassembled. No more flashing lights. Thanks. |

It wasn't really a hassle with Hagerty, but I imagine it would have been easier for them to just total the car. Stated value was $37,500 and I probaby have double that in the car. I know you will never get back your expenditures, but I finally had the car the way I wanted it. Two shows last summer: two Best in Class, looking forward to more until the fire. One of the problems facing Hagerty in this instance was the ability to get a firm estimate for repair. I would imagine this would apply to a huge number of our favorite Ferraris. You never know exactly what it is going to cost and/or if you can even get some of the parts. You can always bang out new body panels and rebuild suspension etc from salvage cars to repair collision damage. Fire damage is a little harder. Also I insisted that any parts be concours quality: I didn't want a lesser car than I had! Continental Autosports in Hinsdale(Chicago) is doing the work and it is progressing well. Saw the car last week and am happy with the results. It looks like it will cost somewhere around 25-28K to fix. Hagerty will usually total the car at 70-75% of stated value. I get the impression this is somewhat negotiable, and this is where I had to convince them the car was well worth repairing. Really nice people and very willing to listen and work with their customers. |

I can understand that. By the time you find the right 308 and make it what you want it can take a few years. Are you happy with the results? I would imagine the price to repair was very close to the total ins. value too. I am glad to read that you fixed it. |

Mike I use Hagerty. If the car is totaled they pay the agreed price, what you and they agree on when you take the policy. Now my next question is what price did you agree on and what was the cost of the damage? It seems to me that the damage would have been somewhat less then the total worth of the car. So why would they give you a hassle. Just curious since I use them. Thanks. |

Magoo, No, they wanted to total the car and write me a check, but I opted to have it fixed. I had just spent the last two years getting the car totally redone, paint, engine, interior etc. Other than the interior and windshield the rest of the car was perfect. I had to fight a little to get Hagerty to fix it because the repair estimate was near their limit to total the car. I didn't want to go through buying another 308 and spending countless thousands to get it the way I wanted. I have sooooo much invested in this car already I just couldn't let it go. I give Hagerty Ins. high rating because they were really great in working with me on this. |

Mike, did insurance buy you another car? |

Joel, Check your circuit board, fuse panel. It sounds like when certain terminals heat up and the more resistance you put on them they break down. |

Mine was doing the same thing. On the way home from the Friday night gathering at the F1 race in Indy, the instrument panel started smoking, eventually burst into flames and burned the entire interior of the car. Since it was all burned and torn apart by the volunteer fire dept that showed up, we couldn't trace the problem. Best that you find out quick what your problem is, and disconnect the battery if you park it unattended. |

I have a similar prob, where some dash lights do not work until the car is warm....I think it must be a bad ground or something....When it begins, I turn the rehostat off until the car is warm so I do not damage anything. |

I'm having a weird problem in my 308. The head lights and insterment lights including the CD players lights flash from bright to dim really fast I don't about the tail lights, but Im pretty sure they do it too. When the lights are not on the CD player still does it. It is almost like the regulator in the alternator is having a problem. The alternator was rebuilt not long ago. Has any body had this problem? It seems to get better as the car warms up. Another problem. When I first start to dive the car the tach will quit working. However if I touch the brake pedal,or turn the lights on it works, also when I turn the turn signals on the tach works with the blinking of the lights. After things warm up it starts working fine. I have replaced the white fuse holder. It did it before the fuse holder replacement. Any thoughts would be appreciated.Thanks.joel |
