Paul -- the textured panel on the front of the trunk area should be silver (or aluminum) in color (and preferably of the "high heat" type paint) for thermal reasons (i.e., reflective) -- just like the gas tanks and the aluminum forward bulkhead/firewall. |

I just removed my engine for freshening and resealing and was also wondering about the engine bay colours. At the rear, the heat shield is silver. The rest is black. Should this textured heat shield on the trunk wall be black also? Mine is a 79 US 308. |

Brain, You've got to remember that everything is much closer together in the UK, and that Brits aren't generally willing to travel very far .... to us, an hours drive is "a long way away" :-) I live in the Midlands (1/2 way between Nottingham and Birmingham). My nearest approved dealer is in Loughborough, about 1/2 an hour away. I think the next nearest one is in Sheffield (www.ferrari.co.uk doesn't appear to be working at the moment to check !) I wouldn't dream of driving the 60 or so miles to Sheffield to get the car worked on. So I guess it's just a matter of perspective ..... round the London area there's more dealers and specialists, but there's more money down there to spread round them all. Must be that us car-mad Brits spend more on big boys toys than in the US, so dealers need a smaller catchment area :-) |

Neville, I often wonder how the dealers are in the UK, when I left I think that there was maybe just Maranello. seems strange to see lists of dealers within 2-3 hours of each other as well as several independents. Even more so when you look at the Morgan, TVR type places, how do they exist? |

Nev, the cars are satin finish in the engine bay, in the states the G.M. Satin Black is available at any autoparts store, try Halfords. (Do they still have them?). |

Whilst I'm doing the service, and the rear deck and various paraphanalia are off the car, I want to respray the engine bay (mainly the top, black bits, round the chassis plate) coz some muppet's sprayed it before .... badly ! On a 308/euro/carb/1980 what colour is it supposed to be .... matt black ? satin black ? gloss black ? Thanks Nev UK |
