When cold, mine will "tap" for about 30-45 seconds. I sprayed some belt dressing and they stopped. I may try WD40 next time just to try it. I used a Baldwin oil filer and Mobile 1 Synthetic for my last oil change. My last air filter was a Fram, but I'll probably use a K&N next time. As far as plugs, I've got NGK BP7E-VX on my 84 QV and love them. |

Good question. My belts tapped, so I oiled them. Then they started tapping again, and I replaced them, and now I have no tapping at all. I think the edges of belt get worn by the pulley, the pulley gets some rubber build up on it, the belt then jumps on the pulley when it is cold and because it has some remnants of rubber? Can anyone else comment on this? |

why do the belts tap - are they dried out? WD40 works? |

That annoying tap is from one of the accessory belts. I promise you. I sprayed a little WD40 on the water pump belt and it stopped tapping upon start up. Just try it. |

I use NGK BP7E-VX plugs, Baldwin Oil Filter, K&N Air filter on my 82 GTSi. I will be installing Magnacore wires this weekend. Mobil 1 Synthetic oil in engine and synthetic gear oil. No tapping noise and fires right up even in Colorado winters!! |

OEM work fine, Bosch fuel filter, UFI oil filter, any quality oil, I do like NGK plugs especially for the carb. models rather than hunting down the Champion. Remember the race team sponsors get to have their products in/on the cars. Local Bosch distributor should have everything but the oil filter. Let's hope spring is good, this current warm weather makes me think that we might pay the price later. |

Hello Sandra, Just recently purchased a Bosche fuel filter and UFI oil filter from T.Rutlands. Also purchased a UFI air filter from the dealer. Additionally, I'm using AGIP oil and antifreeze. Chose to "go by the book" the first time around and see how things go. However, most owners recommend using the Baldwin oil filters due to better & more rugged design (you can try a keyword search for "Baldwin"), as well as Mobil 1 synthetic. I, too, have an annoying tap at start up which goes away after approximately 30 seconds to a minute. At this point, I'm not certain as to whether or not this is associated with the oil filter. If the UFI doesn't help, then I'll try the Baldwin. Perhaps I just need to drive the 308 more often . |
