FAF in Atlanta (back in the early '90's) were selling ORIGINAL 288 GTO mirrors for $1400 EACH!!

The place Bret mentioned should have them.

Steve, I haven't been to Ebay in awhile (can't afford the lousy exchange rate USD ® CDN, so I don't tease myself by seeing something that I can't afford )

The scoop on the 308 extends pretty far forward, I can't remember exactly, but I would guess that Bill is talking about the stock position. A further note, I'm not sure how much better 288 style mirrors would be as they were changed only so that the driver could see past the wider rear body work (for the wider rims and tires).

To have a mirror placed back by the air dam has to look funny, I would love to see pics. How did the guys keep a straight face when he told you it was stock

The mirrors on the 308 aren't perfect, or at least I wouldn't expect great things from them, but nevertheless they can get the job done. If you set them up right you can see enough, but by no means are they like modern mirrors in regards to adjustability and vision out of them. All the mirrors are in the same place as Peter said, the passenger one is a little further back on the door than the driver's.

I would try http://www.italianauto.com for the 288 style mirrors, the guy's name is Butch Hooper and he does quite a bit of these mods.

Peter maybe you know , I've looked at the pictures of the e-bay 288 conversion and was wondering where you can buy the side mirrors that were on that car. They kind of stick up in the air instead of more horiz. to the car. Does anyone know who makes them? Steve

I've seen different brands/models of mirrors used, but they have been all located in the same place. This car you've seen has obviously had them installed incorrectly, they should line up just a bit ahead of the quarter-window frame.

It will require redrilling and touch-up, but shouldn't be that expensive.

What else has been altered on this car?

This may be a rather petty question, but I've just begun to look at 308's and noticed some significant differences in the placements of door mirrors on this model. I just sat in one QV wherein the mirrors were mounted so far back on the doors ( just before the beginning of the air scoop) that they were almost non-functional for a driver in the normal seating position. The owner states tha the car is stock and untouched, yet I 've seen other 308's with the mirrors mounted more forward and ,therefore, more functional. Does anyone know if the mirror mounts on these cars are reversable /adjustable or would it be necessary to redrill new mounting holes/ fill in the old ones in order to get the mirrors into a more functional position on the doors? If you look a various pics of 308's , you'll find wide variability as to the mirror placements--could they have come from the factory in such an un-uniform way? Just curious.
