Oops, Don, just to clarify, in your original post, and in my description, by 'rear bank' plugs, i presume you mean the bank closest to the driver, which, of course, are the plugs most difficult to reach...

Don, here's tools/stuff i've found to be a real time/aggravation saver on the rear bank plugs:

* small ratchet with flexible head
* short extension
* spark plug socket
* short(if memory serves, about 6-8 inches, you can cut to fit) section of hose, don't remember exact diameter, but is similar to fuel hose. Inside diameter should be such to fit the top end of a spark plug. Or, if a bit small, you can slit the end of the hose to allow it to fit snugly onto the spark plug.
What makes this work is using the hose to remove, then install the plug after loosening the plug. The snug fit allows easy grip on the plug, and having enough length of hose means you can just spin it easily w/fingers.
So, procedure:
* insert extension & socket(connected together) into the spark plug well.
* Slip ratchet onto this, then loosen the plug just a bit, still threaded, but should turn easily.
(I usually don't even push the ratchet all the way on the extension, just enough to get a grip).
* Take ratchet out, then remove extension/socket, LEAVING PLUG in the well, STILL threaded.
* Insert the hose, snug it onto plug, then loosen by hand. Is easy to pull hose & plug out as one flexible unit.

On the install, just fit the new, gapped plug into the hose, then slowly/easily 'drop' the hose/plug into the well and tighten the plug enough to allow you to pull the hose off while leaving the plug tightened a bit. Insert extension/socket, then slip ratchet over the extension & tighten it all up.
My extension/socket is *just* long enough to allow the ratchet to fit when in place, but *just* short enough to allow tipping into the well from the side without getting hung up on the ledge right in front of the rear cyl. bank.

All of this is actually easier than i described.
Before coming across this 'flexible hose' idea in an auto mag years ago, it used to take me 20-30 minutes & scraped knuckles to do the rear bank.
Now i can do all four plugs in 5-10 minutes with NO sweat.
Hope this helps.

I would love to see pictures of that. It must have been easy to do. How did you deal with the pulleys?

I carry/sell the Electromotive system as well and found the installation to be fairly straightforward. The trick was the machining/fitting of the toothed timing wheel to the harmonic balancer. My machinist had no difficulty with it and charged only 25 to do it.

I've purhased the system and it will be installed - along with a Tubi exhaust - on Wednesday.

I'll post results.

Paul, you say "from any customers"...please explain? Do you sell the system as well or are you involved with the manufacturing or installation of it? (Sorry if everyone knows the answer to this except me). Thanks

Stu,
I have had no complaints from any customer, in fact they all come into the shop to say how amazed they are with the system. I run it on my 308 qv and you couldn't pay me to go back to the old sytem!!!!

These customers are my best advertising!

Does anyone see any negative effects from using the electronic ignition system? I'm wondering if there is anything to be concerned about after installing the kit? Thoughts????

To change the plugs, I usally kneel in the trunk and use the plug wrench fron the tool kit and a 14mm box to turn it. 3 from the left, 1 from the right. Maybe someone has an easier way. I tried a stool leaning over the fender, but the truck seemed easier. I haven't tried Nick's ignition, so I can't help there, but I do run a direct fire and like it.

Hi guys - thanks to everyone for all the help and info I've received in the last year after I bought my car. Owning an F-car would be much more intimidating if I didn't have this great resource to help me out.

I have a '78 308, due for a 60k soon. I'm thinking it'd be a good time to change over to Nick's electronic ignition setup - even looks cost effective as it'll replace lots of expensive consumables that'll have to be replaced at the 60k, like distributor caps, rotors, etc.

I'd like some comments on the setup and on how hard it is to install. I'm at the oil change level of mechanical skill currently. I have no problem having it professionally installed but it'll be fun to do it myself if it's not too difficult.

Thanks for your help!

Oh - one more question - what tool/technique do you guys use to change the plugs on the rear bank?
