They read 10 while sitting. I think the speedo stays off pretty much the same amount no matter the speed. The tachs usually are pretty close to right at idle, they just get off higher up in some cases.

308 speedo's read 5mph (or is it 10, I forget) at rest too !

Donny I believe that all of the 308 tach's sit at 500RPM with the engine off. That is the way they are built. There is a stop pin that holds the needle up at 500. When you start the engine it should run true RPM. If you want to check just hook up a tune up tach to your coil and read the 4 cyl. scale.

Donny -- idle airflow/RPM adjustments are typically carried out competely sans air filter so there should be no need to "compensate" for the K&N. If your idle RPM changed significantly you either:
1) had an incredibly dirty old air filter, or
2) you have a (new) vacuum leak somewhere more downstream (as a "vacuum leak around the filter" would just be the same as no air filter so this shouldn't change idle RPM).
I can report that adding a K&N to my TR did not affect idle RPM at all.

I can't remember changing the idle, but I might have as it was summer and I bumped it up for the A/C being on. The K&N is definitely worth it in my opinion. It's got a life time warranty and at 20-30 bucks for a UFI, it's like buying 3 of them but lasts forever. With all the debris that winds up on top of the filter I think that the better constructed and warrantied K&N is the only way to go. Plus, it's cool. It seems to have made a little difference in sound and oomph, just a touch though.

I just bought a new K&N for my 308 QV. After installing it, it was time for a test drive. I didn't go far, but ran the car for 45 minutes or so. I notices that the idle was around 1500 (on the tach. which I assume is 500 rpm off since it says 500 when it isn't running) which is higher that with the original UFI filter. Is this typical? Does the car require an idle adjustment to compensate for additional air flow, or is it possible I have a vacuum leak around the filter causing the higher idle?

I have read lot's of different opinions on performance increases with the K&N, but it sure "feels" more responsive!

Thanks
