thank you Herb for the input! My engine is still in the vehicle and I am seriously considering letting the -pros install the hose. I can't believe such an important sector of the coolant system is so ridiculously difficult to replace..... guess thats why we love ferrari! I'll let you know how it goes

I just finished replacing that exact hose on my car and it is a huge pain. My engine is out of the car which helped greatly. First the left fuel tank has to come out. The left front inner fender has to be removed to feed the new hose out of the trunk where it connects to the "Y" pipe to the heater cores. I connected the old hose to the new hose with a splice connector and my wife pulled from the front and I pushed and guided from the rear until sufficient hose emerged from the front. I was one happy SOB when it came through. The fuel tank has to come out because the hose is routed behind it and it takes a right and left turn that is impossible to make with the tank in the car. By the way I have an ample supply of the Gates Silicone hose if you need some as you have to purchase 50' to get some where I live and you only need about 15'. Let me know if I can help.

thank you very much for all your advise. I have thanks to you input identified the leak as being in the main hose that supplies water to the heater system thru the sill to the rear of the car and probably the worst blooming hose the have to replace!! will look into replacement techniques this weekend. My rat traps have yielded zip but i have not noticed any other damage to the car and the hose probably worn out with age. however I think since I scared the heck out of the little critter and removed his "spare wheel" home he hasn;t shown his face!

There are only a 4 places that can cause a leak where you see coolant. Usually it a small coolant hose coming from the the front of the car up by the left rear wheelwell, coming out next to the 2 black coils and going under the rear (back of the car) distributor cap into the valve head (hard to see). Normally it is in 2 sections, the short end going to the head making it easier to replace. Another is the bottom hose from the reservoir going to the aluminum pipe for the engine cooling. The other 2 are the hose just below the connection of the reservoir to the aluminum pipe that connects the large Vertical pipe to the large Horizontal pipe coming from under the car. And that same large pipe (Hor) has a hose that connects the pipe to another pipe coming from the radiator. You should be able to feel around (dirty) the hoses to see which one is leaking. Because the coolant take along time to evaporate if not heated. If not then you will have to pressure test.

Sandra, if you saw coolant in the area of the driver's side rear wheel, yes, it is the main line to supply the heating system. It runs underneath the door sill, up the wheel well and to the heater valve, which splits into two to feed the two heater cores. If you've got a stow-away living alongside the spare tire, he's probably familiar with the other heater hoses as well. The hoses are easy to change in that front compartment, but that main one running from the engine under the sill is more difficult. H. Gault has changed his already and I'm planning to as well. We've both taken our gas tanks out and there are thin aluminum panels that have to be removed in order to gain access to feed the hose through the passage. To do it, attach the new hose to the old hose and one person at the front pulls and the other pushes from behind in the engine bay. Hope this gives you an idea of what's involved.

any recommendations for good pipers??

seriously though, will check those front hoses and do a pressure check if needed.
thanks for the advice

There are several hoses in the front compartment that have the potential to leak into the drivers compartment especially if a portion of them are being consumed by vermin. You may need to get the system pressure checked to find the leak and get a Piper to remove your mouse.

i noticed the past few days that my 308 while sitting in the garage slowly leaked a trickle of coolant from under the driver side between the door ahnd engine. could it be the hose that takes the water for the heating system??
maybe a leak in the hose that goes from heater to engine? reservoir is completely empty. luckiily this all happened over the winter when i haven't driven the car for weeks.

thanks for any tips!!
ps: there is a small water spot now also on the driver side carpet!!

ps there is a mouse living in the spare tire
