I hear you, I was just surprised WWOC quoted me the same price as you. My motor does not even need to be dropped. I think the person I spoke to did not know what was going on. |

Tom; I wanted to compair, but I was very happy with Bryan and will prob have him do it. I will also break the service up, as Bryan wants to do the Plugs, Rotor's, and Wires now and hold off on the service till next year. I spoke with him today and his major can run from $2,500 - $4,500 for the TR. He feels that he must do the basics, but based upon what he has done before ( plugs, wires, rotors ) or water pump, hoses, it leaves a lot of room. My feeling is when the motor is down, it is a good time to replace the hoses, and thermostats that cannot be reached with the motor in. |

Adam I am not sure what is going on a WWC but I called there to get a price on a 15k service for my 3.2 mondial and she quoted me 4500 less about 700 discount for off season. About the same price as you got for the TR, maybe they don't realize I have 4 less cylinders . I think I am going to stick with Brian. |

Well off the top of my head... The water pump is a BIG issue, have it rebuilt/resealed. There is usally some corrosion that is causing the slight leak, have it dealt with properly. Some folks would say replace rotors (and distributor seals). As to the Distributor caps and plug wires have them checked and tested, they can always be replaced later (without removing the engine). I would also definately replace all the belt tensioners as well as have the timing adjusted (to your preference). The valve adjustment isn't as big a deal as most people make it out to be, but as long as the engine is out and cam covers are off...How about replacing the front engine hoses (if they haven't been replaced already?) and thermostats. Smog pumps and check vavles usually have issuses, along with the shift shaft seal, that may add to the price siginificantly if yours are problematic. They say they are replacing the Alt belt, is that just the Alt belt or all accessory belts? There....that's a start. -Ben |

Ben; The car had a major service done back in 99 and about 8K miles ago. The car just had a complete fluid and inspection done when I had the Alt rebuilt. The lower cam covers are weaping just slightly, and the water pump seal is showing a slight leak. My Indep guy wants to do plug wires, plugs and rotors, but said the car looks great. The only diff with the 15K and the 30K is wires may be replaced. |

Adam, Your TR is an 86, has a major service ever been done before on it? I see several things missing so far, but want to know how detailed I should get. -Ben |

Is this for the major service or the 15K? It says 15K but I didn't think they did T-belts on the 15K. |

Here is WWoC's Sample RO for the Major TR service. The price is discounted for winter service. Are they missing anything?

Wow, $3600 sounds REALLY inexpensive to me. Ben is right, you must know exactly what they are planning on doing. I can see it now. Sure, they will change your belts, but they not do the valve adjust, or engine oil seals. "Oh you want the seals done too?", then it will be $3000 more please! Just make sure they do all parts of the service, not just belts. The have to do the valve adjust, ALL engine oil seals, waterpump service, all fluids, all belts (accessory and timing), check the coolant hoses and system, and A LOT more. |

WWoC gave me an off season price of $3600 with pick-up and Delivery in an enclosed carrier with a 6 business day return. I may have a water pump leak so it would be another 2hrs labour. I did not think that was too bad at all. My Indep I think wanted close to if not more than that. |

I should have stated that my numbers came from cars done by dealers. Go independent if you can, way cheaper it seems. |

I had a 30,000 mile service on my 1986 Tr done at an independant shop a few years back for around $6k. The dealer wanted over $7.5k |

In the next year I have to do my major service for the TR and got a few prices. One from my good indep guy, and one from my Auth dealer who offers a Winter reduction. What have others paid so I can get an idea. |
