PETER, the bolt hole was drilled into the case slightly deeper than it was supposed to be thereby entering the interior of the case. There is no stress or any stress cracks, just that the hole was drilled a fraction too deep. Permatex No. 2 has always worked great for me in the past and is recommended for use on head bolts, water pump bolts etc. The repair was done 2 yrs. ago and has been fine. Thanks for your concern. With the metal drilled through and seeing as its one of the engine mounts (so its supporting alot of weight), do you think/are worried that cracks could develop? I've used Permatex to stop a few leaks at work (really a no-no) and have had not that much success. It works best to help seal gaskets, doesn't have much strength working on its own. But if it still doesn't leak years from now, you probably did the trick.

Has any body had the problem of a oil leak at the left rear, drivers side, and can't tell where it is coming from? Well I did and after many searches and disappointments I finally tried one last thing and to my amazement I found the problem. Where the motor mount bracket bolts into the gear case the threaded holes in the case have been drilled too deep and oil leaks out around the threads. I removed the mount cleaned out the holes and coated the threads with NO.2 Permatex. Case solved. If it could happen on one 308 block it could happen on others. That was a tough one. MAGOO
