The last time a similar thing happened to me, it turned out to be the bearings to my alternator! |

The car only has 13K miles on it and I checked the bearings as well as I could when I changed the belt. I do have a new Compressor, although removing the compressor is allot of work and I would need to capture the Freon before hand and then have it recharged. I live in Florida, so removing the belt is not an option, unless I want to loose some weight. Thanks for all of the good suggestions... |

Being from the humid south, I only have this problem in cold dry days. I have found from plenty of my Ferrari Friends that it is an electrostatic discharge coming off the timing belts. It happens to my 308 every time the humidty is below 75%. I know it sounds crazy. but when it was 100% humidty last week it did not happen. |

It's more than likely the a/c bearings... same thing happened to me on my Mondial... You'll have one of two choices soon -- take off the belt to the a/c or get a new compressor. Good luck. |

I've found that a lot of times (although never on a Ferrari) that once you use belt dressing the noise stops but then the belt breaks soon after. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't use that stuff on the timing belts, there's such a potential for disaster. |

Trent, Sounds like you got a spoon slappin' 1 man band there. Have you tried belt dressing on the timing belts? Someone else on the chat line had the same problem especially when cold. They sprayed the belt and said it corrected the problem. Magoo |

There is a metal chattering noise coming from the AC Compressor (or near it) at Idle and slightly above Idle. This noise is more common when the car is cold, but it is not exclusive to the engine temperature. It sometimes goes away when I turn the AC on (20% of the time). The only way to sure fire hear the noise is to be around people admiring the car, then it sounds like 5 spoons slapping a frying pan at about 20 times a second. The exhaust does not even drowned it out. I talked to a Ferrari mechanic over the phone and he said it could be the AC belt. He said they sound metallic when they get old/loose. I changed the belt and it did not fix the noise. |
