Forgot some things: $200 for special tools and wrenches, a must. $100 for those very expensive ring nuts on the tranny and the timing belt pulleys $70 for the timing belts (would be irresponsible to put them back used) $150 worth of bearings for the timing chain covers, the water pumps, the pilot bearing, might as well catergory. $45 worth of Redline gear oil $60 worth of motor oil So, better make that $1000 (instead of $500) for misc spending on stuff you just do not count on. My 79 GTB rebuild included custom pistons with rings and pins for $1700.00 cdn plus $2400 cdn for seals, ferrari gaskets, rebuild pump, carb kits, t-stat, t-belts, drive bearings, fan belts, fluids, machine flywheel, rear brakes, hoses, filters, blah blah blah. It was worth every penny. I did all the labour which saved alot. |

Eh steve. I am doing a total rebuild, here is what I have into my 308GT4 engine at this time. $1250 for machine shop for the valve job, crank shaft ground, the case line bored and cleaned up. $350 for 8 exhaust valves $150 for 16 valve guides $700 for the engine gasket set $400 for undersize bearings (standard bearings much less) $200 for total seal rings $160 for carburetor rebuild kits $70 for throw out bearing, more if you do the whole clutch package $40 thermostat $500 for miscellaneous chemicals, paints, cleaners, coolants, hoses, oils, etc. About $3000 total for all the parts and shop labor, and that is cheap. I spent more because I was also doing the wheels, cleaned up the interior, the frame, upgrading the electronic ignitition, fixed the speedometer, rebuliding the suspension. So total about $5K for me, plus my elbow grease.

So Bret have you finished putting together the baby yet? I'd like to get a ball park price on what your cost were? Other then the heads and valve job that Nick did were you using stock parts ? I'm trying to price out what it would cost to do an early 308 2V motor using stock parts . Any info would help. Thanks |
