I'm about to pull the trigger and buy a 512TR. The selling dealer (an independent shop) has told me they will do the 15k service in house and apparently have some master mechanic. I am a bit concerned as he is a Mercedes Mechanic and not a Ferrari mechanic. The dealer has assured me that he has in fact worked on many Ferrari's before, which frankly does nothing to help my apprehension. How do I verify the work was in fact done and done properly? I'm a bit leery of a Benz mechanic working on my TR.. WilliamH has suggested making the sale contingent on verification of the work. Will a 3rd party Ferrari mechanic be able to tell if the work was in fact done? I have had a third party mechanic look over the car and drive it. He says the car is perfect except for a crack in the rear window which I will have the dealer replace. He hasn't done a compression or leak down test yet but I will have him do so after the "service" is done. This is my 1st Ferrari sale and am quite concerned that all goes well as I'd really hate to be another horror story where the cam belt broke because it was never replaced or done so improperly.. Thanks for the insight.. With any luck, I'll be joining the ranks soon.. |
