If you're interested on removing the back panels(308s) I can tell you how to get the other pieces out, it would take me a little time but I can tell you exactly what you need to know to remove all of them. It's a little work but not to bad just takes time.

I just wanted to retract my good words about 3M 77 glue. The headliner falls down, it just took a couple months.

Donny,
I'll show you Sunday what I did. It just pulled off for me. Where you have to be carefull is the rubber over the windows. They cost $150.00 apiece. I used a razor blade to cut the fabric off the rubber and lift it up.

We may have two or three guys comin from the Miata club.

The guy who lives down the highway from me is like thier technical expert(Billy Hodgson). He also has one that has almost 300HP.

I know Loyld will be coming with his, he lives in Covington.

Hell, Erin's bringing someone with a pickup truck to take pictures.

How this pickup truck is going to keep up, WILL BE A Problem.

So, we are open to anyone.

David is bringing his 928, he said he is also bringing oil and coolant for US. HAHA

I did mine with 3M 77. It's been a few months now and everything seems fine. I used 2 coats and let it dry for an hour or so before sticking anything together. The bond was strong enough that the only way I could get the piece I did wrong off was to soak it with laquor thinner. They make a stronger spray too, 90.

Kelly, could you give me some insite on how to remove the fabric covered panels from the top (the ones directly above the drivers and passengers seats)? Do I just start pulling at it until the glue lets go. I need to reattach the fabric on a couple of spots.

P.S. Don't get your car to apart before the drive this weekend. A guy I work with from the local Miata club would like to join us. Looking forward to it!

It's done and it looks great.

Thanks for everyones help.

I took the cloth back off. The 3m spray did not hold at all.

I brushed on some contact cement $3 at home depot
Boy it looks good.

Now I got to figure out how to take off the rest of the rear window cloth and clean it too.

Thanks Guys

So Kelly,

No harm done! If that's true about the 3M spray, you'll have the chance to do it all over again with contact cement on the next hot day.

Barry

ps hope you used Woolite

If your material is the loose-weave light cream color that was used in the 80-82 308's, Re-Originals has it. I bought the same material for my car last year from them and it looks great. Ask for Matt.

I took the head liner off, wash it in the washing machine. All the stains came out.

I put it back on, it looks great.

One thing, I talked to a guy today that does headliner and he said the 3M #77 spray I used will not stand up to the heat.

I should have used contact cement.

OH WELL!

If you have anything neagtive to say, just remeber. I'm 6'3" 280

Just thought I would throw that out.

Matt, choke, choke yes I did! I was under the impression that the original fabric was no longer available! I've got to admit though that my interior turned out great and I wanted it to be original! Do you have the beige burlap fabric? From experience I know that upholstery fabrics can be very expensive(still highway robbery!) so I didn't think twice about the price. What burned my butt was the $5 worth of foam for the window seals at $152!!!

The fabric one of the panels of my targa top has dropped. The panel feels firmly attached to the roof when I pulled on it so I didn't force it off. I think it'll have to be removed to reglue the fabric. How is the best way to remove it without tearing anything up?

When I was shopping I found there were 2 materials. One tan with black strips that many people sell at a decent price. The material I had was tan with brown stripes and the only place I saw it was italiancarparts for a lot of money. I bought tan foam back material at the local fabric shop for $10 and have had several people comment on how nice it looks.

Joeg....did you really spend $415 on the targa top fabric? Brian Keegan at ferraripartsexchange.com told me he could sell me enough to do the whole car (including targa top, rear shelf, etc) for about $90. He sent me a sample and it is a perfect match. I've never done upholstery work, though, so there would be an installation cost for me to bring it somewhere, but $90 for the material isn't bad, I don't think.

I cant believe that someone out ther has not found an alternative to the $150 window seal foam strips on the targa top. Mine require replacing but I will not pay $150 for a strip of foam. I look breifly on the internet for this but could not find anything. I would think someone out there would reproduce this for much cheeper then what ferrari sells it for.

I did my 80 308 upholstery this winter(including the rear deck). I have the biege burlap style fabric and I got it from Italiancarparts.com. I'm not sure which fabric style you have but I have a $1000 in the targa top alone and I did it myself! $415 for the fabric with little to spare, each window seal is $152 and must be purchased from Ferrari because of its shape, new clamps $149 each, posts cost me somewhere around $30. I did have the targa fabric professionally laid for $100. I would recomend this, for the edges must be sewn and you only have one shot! I've got to say the the seals and the clamps are a rip off for this price but there are no options! Be prepared!!!

The roof is fiberglass. I used 3M spray glue to put a new head liner in mine and it worked well, although I went with a form headliner material to help keep heat and noise out.
