Ferrari wheels are pretty unique in that they are a very highly concentrated magnesium, which makes them lighter than "normal" magnesium rims but also makes them more susceptible to being damaged as magnesium is somewhat brittle. Ferrari always has to take the best out there and take it one step further in performance. When mine are going to be repainted soon (I live in northern NJ and my uncle owns an autobody shop so he will be doing it) they are first going to be stripped down by using sand blasting, but not with sand, with walnut shells, so I guess we can call it walnut blasting. It is really good at getting the surface prepped and it doesn't damage the rim like sand can. Then he'll apply a zinc chromate primer. And lastly he'll paint them with that silky silver paint with a clearcoat over it. |

I had my wheels powder coated last year and they did not come out very well. The look bad and are cracking and chipping. In my search for having these wheels done, i was told many different things. Ferrari wheels are a special metal, they need to be hand stripped, not bead blasted, etc. I would like to have a strong, tough finish put on these wheels. I would accept chrome, polished alm, or the origanl silver powedcoat finish. Help |
