Having run a 928 for 7 years I'd hardly describe its a/c as having a very high volume output! I never found its a/c that great, having it recharged didn't help much either.

John are you still using R-12 in your A/C system? A gent. on the list changed the expansion valve and enjoyed the results. If anyone needs the number let me know. I have noticed that the stock York style Aspera is a power robber.

Frank, my shop in Austin (TPWSI, phone # 512-836-5949 if I remember correctly; ask for Matt and tell him I said 'hi') did this conversion for me on my '77 308GTB. The 928 blower mounts in the passenger-side footwell. You lose a couple of inches of legroom on that side, but the upside is, you get quite a bit more airflow.

At the end of the day, the 308's biggest HVAC weakness is its wimpy ductwork. Installing a freer-flowing fascia on the center vent, or leaving it off entirely, is the next-most-important thing you can do. Matt also retrofitted a rotary Harrison compressor and replaced the radiator-mounted A/C condenser with two units, each with its own fan, mounted under the headlight louvers. Total cost for all this work was close to $3K, but it was the only way to make my 308 drivable in Austin during the summer.

I'm at [email protected] if you have any questions; I don't check this board all that often.

Not really, most all blower motors draw less than 30 amps. The Ferrari original system is probably not made by Ferrari anyway but by some independent company and just adapted to the cars.

Ed, is there any concern regarding higher power draw with a higher rpm blower? My Alfa Spyder is in dire need of a higher rpm blower.

Thats what I thought you were getting at. Maybe take Eds advice and compare the RPMs on the aftermarket motors that fit, to the orig. 308 motor.

Rob, What I'm looking for is to get more volume from the vents. According to what I heard the 928 has a motor that really puts out a large volume of air. I never did see part numbers or anything else on it though.

Frank,

If you want the real thing I recently replaced my motor and blower assmbly with a NOS from gt car parts in AZ. They were the only ones who had them. You need to know which way the clam shell part goes, there is a left and right, as on my gt4 the same motor is used in front for two fan & heater blowers.

You can go to any independent parts store and look at the A/C parts books and they will have universal motor pictures with the exact dimensions and shaft rotation direction and you can match one up that will work. I used to do this all the time with aftermarket A/Cs and some Hearses and Limos with wierd hard to find units. These companies make a bunch of units then go out of business and leave you holding the bag. That is why a Limosine looses it's value so quickly, the components are a piece of crap and cost more to fix than the car is worth after a couple of years.

I guess the important things here are the rpms compared to the orig. 308 motor and does it have a double shaft for two squirrel cage blowers and are the mounting brackets the same. Who knows it may even be the same motor. Anybody know?

I remember reading that it was possible to fit a 928 blower motor in a 308. Does anyone know the part number or if any modifications need to be done
