I am trying to change the clutch on my 1980 308. I'm having getting the bell housing off. I think the bearing has me hung up.Does anyone have any suggestions?

One of my vendors that I work with does this, and if you are getting it done for $110, its a great deal. That's just hair under what I could set you up with. Kevlar-weave - some slippage; Kevlar/Kevlar - a little less slippage and more grip; Carbon/Carbon - even less slippage, more like binary - on/off.

Kevlar handles more power and heat without slipping, it can be a little grabby though.

I'll also reline my clutch. Haven't heard so much about Kevlar, though. Can someone please tell me more about the benefits and drawbacks with kevlar.

I just picked up my car yesterday with the clutch rebuilt with Kevlar. Can not give you any other experience with that than that it feels fine.

OK,

I am convinced! Thank you all for the input.

I knew you could do it but was wondering what kind of results Ferrari owners had doing it. I have a spare clutch that is worn, yet not beyond WSM wear limits, that have some hot spots. I will take them down today and have them relined along with the getting intermediate plate and pressure plate re-surfaced. Once I pull the clutch off my car, I will have the flywheel resurfaced also.

Disc relining is $40.00 each and the plates are $12.00-$15.00 each. So, around $110.00 for the lot.

I will ask about Kevlar relining. If they can do it and it is reasonable, I will have it done.

Thanks again, Joe

When it's time for my clutch, I'm going to have it relined with Kevlar at:

http://www.paeco.com/

They will rebuild the pressure plate and resurface the disk with Kevlar for $470

I had the disk on my 308 relined, but with kevlar, and it's been working well for 10k miles now.

I have taken clutches and brakes(the old days) to be relined. Never had a problem.magoo is correct in saying it is the same exact process.

I can't see the problem. Same process to make as when they were new.

Has anybody here had experiences with or have had a clutch disc relined? I am thinking about having my discs relined instead of replacing them with new ones. I would like to know what is good or bad about doing this VS replacing them.

I have found a good shop that does it all the time for a broad range of vehicles. They say they are confident in doing mine since they do Porsche Corvettes and Bimmers all the time.

Let me know what think, Joe
