William, No I live in L.A. now, but my folks are still there. Man, you have been all over the place. I hope you had a good time down there. One thing is for sure there, your driving skills and patience are tested every day, every corner. I just came back from a few bus/pleasure days down there and it was great, except surf was a bit low. NEWS - We have got some NEWS! The car has retuned home and the site has been updated with another good 40 or so pics. I've kept them seperate so that all the viewers wouldn't have to scroll thru to find the ones that they hadn't seen yet. 120+ pics total now. If there are any questions just shout them out. -Ben Now if the rain could just stop here, I can get it out of the garage and tell you how much I'm enjoying the fact that it's home..... |

Ben, I spent some time looking at the pics (waiting for them to load!). Thanks for a the nice documentation on your project. It was very interesting and enlightening to see all the work. Was that you pushing? P.S. I didn't remember that TRs had those rear caster wheels but I know they help in the corners... |

Dan, I'll guess that is your black 348? I wasn't too familiar with Thomas before this, but boy am I glad I've become familiar with him and his work HE IS GREAT! Caribe, while I don't have a specific answer for you (since I haven't gotten the bill yet....) I can give you some idea, a normal major on a Testarossa takes about 50 hours and usually comes to about $7k, here in California. As to what the major includes see the web page. That figure doesn't include anything that gets discovered during the major (think bad secondary ignition etc.). I have had Thomas (my mech/tech) put in over 80 hours so far, and that doesn't include the detail/paint work (another 40 hours, done by someone else). Add for parts (not included in the major) all new hoses, clamps, and most hardware. We had just made the engine look VERY pretty, we didn't want to put on ugly looking bolts/nuts and clamps. Also added a new dryer tank for A/C, new thermostats, all new fuel injectors. There has to be more, I'm just not thinking of it all. Hope that helps. Any more questions? -Ben More pics coming soon... |

Just to get an idea of what a job like this would cost, Ben, would you care to give the approximate amount this type of service will cost? Thanks, Caribe |

I saw your 512 TR yesterday when I dropped my 348 off for major service. Thomas does nice work, doesn't he? |

almost forgot in case you want to see ARARITI in "show me off" mode (meaning her outside, not her insides), see the Showroom section for a 1990 Testarossa Grigio/Grey...just in case someone asked. -Ben |

Those here who remember me from the discussion boards previous incarnation, will remember me saying rather strongly that I felt the recommended 30k/5y service interval for timing belt change etc. was a bit too much pushed by the dealers. I felt it was reasonable to do maybe every 45k or 7.5 years. Well for several reasons I have ended up doing the major on my TR. This had led to me doing a number of other service and cosmetic things at the same time. It has taken quite some time to get to the point we are now at. We should be doing valve timing within the next few days (read = week). Soon after that will be final assembly and then soon ARARITI will be home. I love my car, and one of my other hobbies is taking photos. Those that are interested in this process can benefit from a rather extensive picture show (current count over 80 images). Im not a big web designer/htmler, so I made it rather plain and simple. I was going to setup a storyboard with pages describing every little detail, (1 picture = 1,000 words) but that has proved far too time consuming, so the pics are in no particular order, they are however, thumbnailed for those with slower connections. As well there are some basic descriptions. I will post a follow up when I update/put up even MORE pics. This is what I have to date. Any questions and/or comments are appreciated. Grab some popcorn and let the download(s) begin. Enjoy the show. http://www.quirt.com/BenMan/ -Ben |
