It seems the masonry mesh is an appropriate substitute. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/8167/308archives/exchange/

John, go to a place that sells masonary or plastering supplies. Make sure you get the thicker stuff. It's called 3.5lb. metal lath or expanded metal lath. They make it in 1.7lb. but it's too thin. Also look at the piece you're getting as sometimes the diamond shapes in the lath aren't in a straight line. It comes in 28" by 96" size. Also you used to be able to buy it in black or ungalvanized, but I haven't seen any for a while. It normally comes bright galvanized. |

The technical name is "expanded metal" and can be purchased in numerous places both in Aluminum and steel. |

they have it but I don't think it is exactly the same - its in the cement isle. You would need to paint it black. I also think the wire is thinner than on the car |

I have seen several parts references that indicate that the wire mesh under the hood is available at Home Depot. However, I went there yesterday and they do not have it. All the backing for ceramic tile is in board format now. Any ideas where the metal may be available?? |
