Thanks for the replies, but I have a US car, and it's not the sound of the pump when the door is opened. The sound I'm trying to figure out occurs when pulling back on both paddles to engage neutral before starting the car. |

Euro cars also activate the pump when the drivers' door is opened. |

Vince, do you have a Euro car? I guess that US cars build hydraulic pressure when the driver side door is first open and don't have to be shifted to neutral before starting, while Euro cars require shifting into neutral and start building the pressure at that time... In any case, that sound is perfectly normal. ACW

Tim, August 2000 issue of Forza has everything you would want to know about the F1 tranny. It also describes the differences between the 355 version and the 360 version.

I certainly know little about a 360 but if from what I have read the shifting is controlled by hydraulics and if the noise is occuring before you start the car I would have to conclude that there is some sort of electrically operated hydraulic pump that must run to build pressure to operate the gear select and the noise is probably normal. |

2002, sound does not occur only when car is stared, but it is easier to hear when about to start because the engine sound is not there to mask it. It can be heard while driving, but not as noticeable. I would not call the sound constant, as it does come and go while driving. However it is there when shifting into neutral for starting purposes. |

Any idea what is causing a harmonic humming sound from a 360F1 transmission? Most noticeable when shifting into neutral to start car. |
