I will find it. I can talk you through it but wait till I find it in the original text & print. It was from the 80's. It's not a myth.

I've been looking for someone who has a copy of the article on drilling a hole
to fix the 308 2nd gear shifting problem for 3 years! I'd about decided it was
an 'Ferrari Legend'...

If you've located the article on the alternate gear oil, I'd be interested in
it also.

Could you FAX me a copy to:

603-884-0189

Write "Attn: Verell Boaen" on the 1st sheet.

I'll be happy to scan it in & eMAIL you a .TXT file, or MS Word .DOC file so you can
share the article electronicly.

I found the one article about drilling the hole. Yes Doctor you drill the hole allowing the oil to escape from the cylinder instead of being forced to compress.I am still looking for the article on the alternate oil recommendation.I wish I had a scannner!!!!!!!!!!!!If anyone interested in drilling .let me know and I'll get a copy to you somehow.Or I'll type it all in and email it out.

I have heard the same thing about a modification as to alleviate the hydraulic lock as the shift shaft slides within the bore to bleed off the lube. I do not remember where I saw it though as my age is creeping up on me and memory is full. I need to add memory.

Dr. I recall hearing that and other fixes do post it if you find it. The one I am trying to remember is suppose to have come from Ferrari about changing the gear oil to a different weight and possible a different type as Magoo mentioned. It would be nice to get a cleaner 2.nd gear shift.

A while back I read in a tech article about drilling a small hole somewhere within the trans to allow the fluid to move somewhere else more quickly. This allowed 2nd gear to be used almost immediately upon start-up. Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?
I'll start digging around for the article and post it when it turns up

Bruno the only thing that has been discussed on this chat line RE: different gear oil that I recall is the changing to Mobil 1 synthetic. If you check the archives you will find many posts on how members have been pleased with the change over. I know I am.

Dont I remember back in the early 80's that Ferrari acknowledged problems with the 308 transmission shifting problem and said it had something to do with the grooves in the trans and recommended a different oil???????
