There should not be any noticeable belt dust in the cover area on any belt driven cam. Something is WRONG.

It if slipped a tooth it could cause the problems you are seeing. If it has slipped a tooth then your tensioners must not have been installed correctly or something else strange occured because in most cases it is very had to have the cam belt just slip a tooth especially after just 4000 miles since the service. The dust is normal dont worry about it...the first thousand miles on a new belt they always seem to spit a lot out.

OK, I removed the driver's side cam belt cover and it looks like the marks on the cam gears are not square.

It appears as though the intake side is one notch behind?? If it skipped a tooth, would these be the symptoms?

Also, there's a decent sized pile of residual black belt dust in the cam belt cover, is that normal?

The belt was replaced along with the front covers last year, about 4,000 miles ago.

Thanks for any help.

My 348 has developed a strange "fluttering" when trying to accelerate below 3,000rpm. Something is not right, although it seems to idle normally, and starts with no problem. It is definitely down on power throughout the rpm range, but the "fluttering" vibration smooths out above 3,500 rpm.

Interestingly, it also faintly backfired while accelerating from low rpm? Seemed to eminate from the left side, but it might have just seemed that way.

I put fresh gas in, and checked all the plug wires. Ideas??

Thanks for any help.
