On my cars and I would think on most without a special problem, oil consumption is much more closely related to time at high rpm rather than simply miles. On my 60000 mile 328 I use 1 qt per 1500 miles or so on the street and 2-3 qts of Red Line on a typical track weekend at Lime Rock or the Glen where I see 7-8000 rpm many times every lap. Same on my 512TR where 2 qts on a track weekend at Moroso or Sebring is typical and very little usage off the track.

This is a very good survey.

With my '92 348SS with 21.4k miles, no oil leak and no engine rebuild. Oil consumption is about 1 quart/1000 miles using Shell synthetic-blend oil. I since switched to Mobil 1 but I havent driven the car enough to notice the difference.

'82 GTSi - drove from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas, via Utah 70 to 15 enroute and I40 to I25 back; added 3 quarts on entire trip. I am doing this road trip again in June!

90 TR, Drove 9,000 miles last year, use natural 15W50 -- 1 qt every 1,450 miles and that includes many trips to 6500+ rpms in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear.

Ben: 87 TR, 12 cyl, 23k, no mods, fossil oil Castrol 20-50, no leaks, uses approx. 1 quart every 1800 miles. Next oil change will go over to Castrol Synthetic/Mobil 1. There are too many good reasons not to switch. George

82 308gtbi euro...1qt at 650 miles...using Castrol 20-50. Slight oil drip from around pan. Thinking on changing to Mobil 1 which I use in everything else.(after I change pan gasket) Changed the gearbox with it and man does my car shift ohhhh so sweeeet. A very noticeable difference from conventional gearoil, right off the bat. Woops changing subject...sorry

Manual says 1 qt. every 600 miles. I don't put that many miles on her but I haven't noticed any. No leaks.

At the end (before pulling it all apart) it was a total loss oil system, well not quite. At the end (when it was leaking oil enough to be noticeable) it was probably loosing close to the Ferrari 1 quart for 600 miles. When I got it though, I was probably close to 1000 miles a quart. I'm not really sure cause I topped it off every couple of weaks. I always had oil leaks though so I don't think it was really burning oil as much as just making it's way out of the seals, which got progressively worse over the 10K miles I did last year.

1994 348 Spider. 16,000 miles on the clock. I use Castrol-R 10w60 synthetic. Uses about a liter every 1500 miles or so. And I rev it to red line to shift more than half the time.

Here is my experience on 4 cars. 84 & 85 308's 87 328 and 94 348. None used any appreciable amount between changes (about 3000 miles). Always used mineral oils but just changeing to Mobil 1 now and don't know if there will be a difference. The 348 had miles from 1K to 16K. The others were 30-40K. All stock original.

About 1 quart every 3,000 miles. I think that is common. I would find it hard to believe a Ferrari won't consume some oil.

I'm curious how much oil eveyone's Ferrari engine consumes. I think this should prove to be very interesting.

Please give year, model/engine, mileage on car, engine mods or rebuilds, Dino or synthetic oil, noticable oil leaks?, and amount of oil used over last miles/time.

I'll begin...

90 TR, 5 liter/12 cyl, 36k on the clock, no mods or rebuilds, Natural oil, NO OIL LEAKS, used approx. 1 quart/liter over the last 2,500 miles/1 year.

-Ben
