Check if the alternator belt is a little too loose.

Remove the belt and run the engine through the RPM range that the noise occurs and see if it solves the problem. It will not hurt to run the engine a few minutes with the belt off.

Just recently on cold days, my 88 Mondial makes a ticking sound that goes for about a minute or so then goes away when warmed up. A friend who is an 308 owner mentioned that it might be a alternator belt that needs to be changed.

Also, at about 4,500 rpm, the engine makes a high pitched squeaking noise. (not very loud). Is that related to the water pump belt? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
