Manu,

Keep me posted if you get the straight pipes mounted. I just started a thread on the main message board asking the exact same question. I am basically underwhelmed with the acceleration on my 550 versus my 993tt. I have heard the straight pipes will make a tremendous difference. It better be AT LEAST 25hp or I don't think you'll notice it on a 485 hp car. I already have the tubi and think they're o.k. The sound is pretty bassy if that makes any sense. Not too loud, but somewhat irritating after awhile. Good luck and keep me posted.

This is what I mean by straight pipes - NO silencer. I have it on good authority that fitting these will make my car sound like a Daytona but better:Upload

Not a muffler in sight. Allied to cat-replacement pipes and a sport air-filter and I'm looking at a very realistic 25bhp power increase. I just don't know whether it will be too LOUD.

When you say straight pipes do you mean straight pipes as in the street pipes they put on track cars? Not cat replacements but instead of the muffler?

I have heard from other people that tubi on V12s is just a little 'too' loud...My experience with it is a little limited...either way, to totally exploit having cat-replacements I intend to go down the straight pipe route....one step further.....
Is this too much........

Yeah they do Ben. I heard two 550s this weekend at WWoC and got the same too quiet impression. Such a beautiful car should be heard. Everyone seems to rave about the tubis for it. I've never heard a borla on it, but they usually sound nicer than tubis IMO.

...and Borla I believe still makes one for this model.

There's one other option, although I do not know how it looks in person - the Hamann exhaust.

Does anyone have any experience of Koenig exhausts for the 550 Maranello.....
The standard car sounds fab - a quite superb engine note. But it is simply not loud enough. I wanted to know just how loud the Tubi or Koenig Muffler really is.

More definite is the fact that I am going to fit cat-replacement pipes (doing this on a 550 delivers a substantial power increase) from either Koenig or Tubi. The Koenig cat-replacement pipes have a definite advantage here, because they have threads which fool the ECU into thinking a cat is still fitted thereby preventing the irritating warning light on the dash.

Its here where things get complicated. I'm not sure whether to go all out and unsilence the car by buying straight race pipes (y-tubes) from either manufacturer or to actually buy the conventional sports exhausts (with mufflers).

It has been suggested that straight-pipes might be 'too loud' which is something I have so far dismissed - given that I use my car for fun and NOT long journeys. Is this prudent...... Apparently the tubi muffler is plenty loud enough...

Also which marque sounds better (better to my mind is a high-pitched scream which complements the engine note, as opposed to a bassy baritone sound).

I briefly heard a Tubi muffled 550 - it sounded perfect and I didn't think there was any chance of it getting too loud... I also heard a race-pipe Koenig exhaust which had the ideal volume but not quite the perfect sound... Either way my experience has been too brief to make a judgement..

Most people here in the UK fit Koenig - Tubi appears to be quite rare. But Germans and other Europeans fit all sorts of lesser know marques such as Hamaan, Mille Miglia, Fuchs etc.....

Any advice and any experiences with Tubi or Koenig (or other makes) on the 550 Maranello (or even with other Ferraris), and mufflers or straight pipes, even if they involved hearing the car breifly, would be of real help to me.

Kind Regards
