Instead of spending money on a reprint go to http://www.owners.ferrari.com and sign up.
They have a section called Vintage and in that section you will have access to the exact Owners Manual you need.

Ken R. -- Don't replace anything yet without some actual diagnosis, but I would very strongly recommend that you spend the $75~$150 and get a reprint or an original of the proper model/year/version Owner's Manual for your 308QV. It'll have a very useful layout of the whole coolant system (and the cabin air circulation system), and every F should have useable Owner's Manual information in it's document folder. Same thing goes for the other thread IMO about asking for help with where the various gearbox fill/drain plugs are -- if you're doing such work, it'll be the best money spent (an asset for the car, or if you want to resell, it's totally liquid). The OMs have a surprising amount of solid, easily-understandable technical information that will help even the non-DIYer with ownership/service IMO -- take a look at www.ferraribooks.com above.
Back to your problem -- if you can access the heater network under the cover under the front bonnet, you should be able to just feel the water lines entering/exiting the heater radiators by hand to determine if hot coolant is circulating improperly when the heater control lever is in the cold/blue position (engine warm/hot). May or may not be the problem, but not too difficult/expensive to check.

The insulation will help some but it will still be hot in the cabin. The rear window on the QV puts out a lot of heat especially on the rear of your neck. Also coolant pipes run right underneath the cabin. Feel around by the pedals in your car and feel the carpet etc. You will probably feel hot spots around these areas. On both of my 308s the lever is fully closed but heat still comes out of these areas. You can close the vents by your feet etc. I know a few owners that installed insulation under their carpet etc. to keep some of the heat out.

I think that the foam pieces up front under the hood are designed to keep the flow of air into the radiator and a/c condensor. They don't offer much in keeping hot air out of the firewall. The heater valve that Steve suggests is probably the culprit.

It's up front near/below the brakefluid reservoir I believe. There are two.

Where is the heater control valve and how do I replace it?

I really believe Steve is on to the problem. Water-cooled VW's back in the 80's had the same problem with the heater valve. Eventually they leak and allow hot water to flow past the closed valve. I replaced one on my 87 16V Scirocco this past weekend. I haven't done it yet but I am willing to bet that if we replace the heater control valves on these 308's the hot air problem will disappear. Replacing the foam seals is also on my list of upcoming weekend projects.

I agree with Bob I replaced the foam seal on under side of hood in two places, and it helped very much. I also found when I bought car from Jack Cauley water valves were broken open. Cauley Ferrari replaced them at no cost. I also went to Home Depot and purchased some silver lined bubble insulation material taped to rear of plastic spare tire area.

A commond thing missing is the foam seal on the underside of the hood for the front of the spare tire well, once I replaced this missing seal not as much hot air came in from nowhere

One thing to check is that when the temp lever is in the cold (blue) position that the heater water valve is actually closed properly.

While driving my 1985 308 QV I always feel hot air blowing into the cabin from some unknown source and location. It is as if the heater is on. I have been unable to locate this source of hot air (may be coming from the footwell), so I am seeking any suggestions from the board. TIA.
