I tried to remove mine with the front header in place but I needed another 1" clearance to do it so I unbolted the header with the engine hanging over the engine bay. It was easier to get at the nuts with the engine up in the air. I think the GT4 is even tighter so I would say no to removing it complete with the header unfortunately.

You have to take off the header on the QV, but you can let it simply sit there then and pull the engine away from it. On my QV it was actually easier to unbolt the header than try to break it loose where it meets the other header (did this with the engine out later on) so it worked well.

Wild question: Can the engine be removed and put back in the engine bay with the front 4-8 header in place?

I also removed the intake manifolds and made a steel plate, drilled holes to match the intake stud pattern, welded lift tabs to the plate and bolted it on the front head. This is the only surface I attached to and it held the engine at the correct angle to clear the engine bay. You will have to tilt the engine front up so the drop down gear cover on the bellhousing is vertical and your diff housing will clear the rear wall. The clutch adjusting stud is in the perfect place to pop a hole in your backglass if you're not careful.

When I removed my engine last month I hooked the load balancer to the studs that hold the intake manifolds in place (after removing the manifolds). I'm sure this isn't the only way to do it, but worked for me. Be careful to protect the rear window.

After a few days of working on it at night, my engine is ready to come out. My question is:

1. What are the best points to attach a chain to the engine?

The intake manifold offer many convenient studs and bolt locations at both the engine side and the carburetor side. Would you use that?

I know I do not want to attach the chain to the valve cover studs. But beyond the valve covers, there are not too many good locations.

I do have a load balancer so I can rock the engine back and forth a bit.
