Tom, for that price I'm sure it's a "nice" key. BRGDS,

I have the exact same key for my 308. I just went to the dealer and asked them to cut me a spare key and thats the key they gave me. Mind you the key cost me $79.00cnd. But it's a nice key.

I finally found someone to cut my keys. I had called every locksmith in the phone book and once I told them it was a steel key they refused to touch it. I just walked into the local hardware store and they cut them for 95c each. Never noticed that they were steel. Guess you just have to find someone who doesn't know the difference!

One the subject of keys... Does anyone know of a way to keep the 360 keys looking good? They look great when new, but the finish quickly wears off. I was planning on having a jeweler remove the remaining metallic coating and polish the aluminum underneath; does anyone else have some better suggestions?

I purchased the F50 key for my 308 from T. Rut. for abot $30 I think. It will fit a 308.

John,

That makes sense, except it seems to me that the metal shaft of the folding key is a little shorter than the metal ignition key. I have a blank folding key, and havent tried to have it cut yet.

Aaron, thanks for the p/n info! It is very helpful. I will get it from Symbolic and take it to the nearest Orchard Hardware store for a cut. They normally have nice people working there.

My 86 328 came with the 2 keys in the picture and the black folding key as well. My guess is that the metal ignition key is the original "spare" key and the black folding is the original primary ignition key.

Hope this helps.
John.

Rob,

I have the same set of keys for my 86 328, but my owners manual has an illustration of the black plastic folding key with the prancing horse logo; calling it the igition key. Whats going on here?

I bought one of the keys with the prancing horse for my 308 (works fine), they also make one with the black plastic but no prancing horse for the door key.
FYI - the reason no one wants to touch the black key with the prancing horse is because it is steel and eats up the cutting stones. You need to find someone who doesn't check it with a magnet before they begin cutting.

Yoshi -

Sorry - been off line a couple of says here. Here's what I've got for part numbers... (taken off my Symbolic invoice)

The key you pictured with the prancing horse:
#168786 - Key Blank, F50/328/412 - list $34.32 paid $27.52

For the door key like in Robs pic (except mine says Silca Italy):
#95401030 - Door Key Blank - code r - list $9.25 paid $8.42

Getting them cut is another story. I recommend a locksmith shop - they didn't have a problem with it. Home Depot and Ace hardware were other stories. Because these guys weren't trained to be free thinkers - unless they had the exact template that said Ford, Toyota, etc. they wouldn't touch it - didn't have one for Ferrari -
'magine that!

Richard, is your door key Cromodora? I would think yours is the same as mine, as mine has "Dino" inscribed in it. This key fits the door handle of my GT4 that's also the same as an X-1/9. Your Dino coupe is a Bertone design and it seems all Bertone cars have only a few door handle designs shared amongst a whole range of cars.

I'd try Bayless Fiat first:

I was told the same thing by FOW about the keys being steel and not brass. I would do one of 2 things:
1. go to a locksmith, they should be able to cut them
2. Go to Home Depot, Wal-Mart, or some other place that will probably have some $6/hour kid cut them that won't know the difference and it might ruin their blades but you'll have a copied key.

BTW I got the folding key blanks from FOW for $15.50 each. I thought it was a good price.

They usually have them kicking around ebay. I would think TRutlands, Dennis McCann, etc would have them too, as well as the dealership which might be expensive. I just got Fiat keys for my spares, but they don't look as nice as the Fcar ones.

Where can I get a door key blank like in Rob's picture? I have a spare ignition key but no spare door key (not that it really matters on a 32 year old car that would take a whole 20 seconds to break into if I needed to, ha!).

Jennie drove it home, if I was taking pictures of my own hand and keys, then you know I probably had a couple. Jennie has driven it several times, but not with me in it recently. I was proud of her, instead of old 3k shifts where it sounded like it would almost stall, she was hitting the top end of the power band each time.

Does anyone know where I can get a 308 key cut? I bought a blank from Continental Motor Sports and like Aaron, I couldn't find anyone to cut it. They all told me that because it is steel, as opposed to brass, it will kill their blades. Thanks, Jerry.

I may be the only one here, but I find something ironic of Rob taking the picture of his keys in front of a Corona. Seems to me that some interesting quotes could come out of that pic.

Aaron they are Fiat keys for all intensive purposes. They have the same key design (the shaft layout), just with a different head that looks nicer with that little hook. Actually I have a couple sets of Fiat keys cut for the 308 as extras (they just have a ciruclar head).

I think the F50 key is part # 168786. You'll still need a separate key for the doors, fuel, etc.....

Aaron and Dave, thanks for the info. do you, by any chance, know the part number for this blank key? Rob, I apologize the highjacking the topic. But, at least, you know yours seem to be the original keys. I was also surprised to see how simple they all looked.

Yoshi -

I bought the key like your picture from the parts dept at www.symbolicmotors.com for my 328. I had a problem getting it cut though - nobody wanted to touch it - finally found a locksmith who thought it was a Fiat key and charged me a whole $2!

Yoshi,

That ket also came with my 550. BTW, ask your dealer for an F50 key, and have it cut for yoru 308; I did that for my 328 & it works perfectly.

My keys are also exactly like yours including the lettering. BTW, have you seen the key like this one? I think it is cool! I believe it is sold at one of the Ferrari dealers as I have seen the picture. But, it says it is for F355. I wonder if anyone knows where I can find this type of the key with a prancing horse for 308's. Upload

Yes they are Rob. They are identical to my orig. set. The ignition key has the name NEIMAN on it and the door key has the name TORINO on it.
