Finally the machine shop got to weld and rebore my scored bad head. It turned out very good. I fit the cam on there and there is barely a few thousandths of an inch clearance. Next is to cut the seats, clean off the heads, and reassemble tfe valves. Then it is the block's turn for line boring. Incidentally, the cam shafts (intake cams) had the splined ends removed and the oil plugs (which I machined on a lathe myself) put in. It was not necessary to heat the cam shafts up in my case, this is contrary to what others have said. All I did was to take a 4x4 block of wood, drill a hole to receive the pin, bored a line to accept the cam, and pound out the pins with a drift. The oil plugs were machined to be short and fitted with Loctite. It was a huge blast of fun. I was laid off so I had plenty of time to work on this until my next job. |
