Car just had the 30,000 mile service. Ran the car again to the the local gas station to see if last nights overheat was going to happen again. It did. Seems like the radiator fans aren't turning on at the proper temperature. Once they kick on then the temp drops to the normal temperature of 185-190 and holds rock steady. Come home and park both radiator fans are working. What dictates the temperature that the radiator fans kick on?

Sorry that I sound like a mechanical nerd but I am, used to those GM products and MB products where you keep the fluids and filters clean and just run them.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have had large fluctuations with coolant temperatures even in the colder months. Past records and experience have pointed to air in the system. What I usually observe is that the temp will hold steady while moving then will start to creep up in traffic, slow driving, etc. When was the last coolant flush?

Probably a sticking thermostat

Just drove the 348 last night coming home and the temp gauge went to 225. Always held rock steady at 185-190. Temp then went back to normal 185-190, held steady for the rest of the short trip back home. Coolant level good. Fan not kicking on? Now I'm scared to drive the car to the dealer to check out. Any suggestions for a mechanical novice?
