Hans, My brackets are bolted on to studs welded to the square frame rail, kind of the same way the coils are attached. I guess this is just another example of the hand building process back then. |

If your Lucas motor isn't too far gone, you can probably repair it. Mine apparently was binding a little, as it didn't turn real freely. Also, the brushes were ate up. A little dab of lithium grease on the bushings, and some generic parts store brushes seemed to do the trick, at least temporarily. If it doesn't work, I'm out $3.00 |

Mike: How did you move the mounting bracket? Mine is welded on. |

First, loosen the nut on the exposed end of the motor and "tighten" the center shaft until the motor binds. Back off 1/4 turn on the shaft (or until the fan turns freely) and retighten the nut. This may take care of it... maybe. It has worked for me on more than one occasion. |

I went thru this same dilemma last month and after trying 3 different motors that were not satisfactory, I ended up getting a new one from AW Imported Auto Parts--732-542-5600. It fits fine, includes the fan blade, doesn't draw too may amps and it works. Give them a try, I recommend them. Roger B. |

Rutlands has updated fans, bigger blades & better motors, that I replaced my originals with. Not "concours correct" but they sure are better. The mounting brackets had to be moved a little bit, but it's easy to do. Just drill a new hole so the bracket expands a little further. |

Depends, do you want to keep it original or do you care about putting modern fans on the car? The original Lucas fans are getting tougher to find parts for. For the price of rebuilding you could get aftermarket, more efficient fans. |

My radiator fan motors have started to buzz and vibrate excessively when turned on. I can detect some slight looseness in fan blades and shaft relative to the motor case. Is this caused by worn shaft bushings? Can these motors be rebuilt or re-bushed? What is the best/cheapest source of new motors?
