Ben,
The Euro QV is spec'd at 9.2:1 compression ratio.

Currently I've got BOTH the RN9YC resistor plugs AND the resistor extenders. I don't think I want more resistance.

The color isn't 'rusty', it's a pretty deep reddish brown. The entire insulator is that color, not just a ring around the electrode.

I'd post a photo, but I just glass bead-blasted the plugs this AM & re-installed them. (YES, I made sure there were NO glass beads deep in the groove around the insulator.) After blasting, the insulators were a deep pink w/a brown tinge to it.

Well sounds like a few things going on here. First let me say the noise in the radio is due to not enough resistance in your ignition system. You need the resistor plugs. If you want to run non-resistor plugs you will probably have to buy a noise-filter for your radio. Also the color of your sparkplugs. You have yourself a very healthy engine. This sounds like a perfect burn. Good compression with a perfect fuel air mixture. With these conditions your plug should be black around the edges and the electrode, then have a rusty color around the middle white insulator. Just curious how much compression you have. Usualy a colder plug is used with higher compression engines, due to the amount of heat produced. However you have yourself a nice good burning sparkplug. I would love to see a photo of it. Personaly I hate Champion plugs but with what you have I wouldnt change it.

You don't want two resistors... impedence mismatch. I used to have a link to a site that had lots of pictures of plugs and the related engine ailments... can't find it. Anyone know which one I'm thinking of?

My car came w/Champion RN9YC resistor plugs.

However, I also have the red extenders 'con resistore' which I translate as 'with resistor'.I was once told that all the Euro 308 QVs had the resistor plugs. Anyway, I've had 3 extenders fail due to arc-thru. I had a heck of a time finding replacement red extenders, so I cleaned the carbon traces out & sealed the holes with aquarium grade RTV (doesn't leave an acid deposit). This got me thru last year. I now have 8 new red extenders.

My 1st question is:
RESISTOR or NON-RESISTOR PLUGS?
If the extender has a resistor, shouldn't I be running non-resistor plugs? Otherwise the voltage will be divided between the plug & the extender. Possibly accounting for the carbon tracking. Also I think that the double resistors would reduce the spark's energy.

My owner's manual recommends non-resistor plugs:
Champion N7GY
Bosch W6DS

NEED HOTTER PLUG?
Most of my driving is a ~10 mile daily commute on back roads. I seldom get out on the highway to wind it out(sigh).

My plug electrode ceramic insulator tips are a dark reddisn-brown color I've never encountered before. They aren't fouled, just have a dark coating. The ground electrode is dark black.

I haven't noticed any miss-firing problems, but My suspicion is that I'm running too cold a plug. Does a cold plug match these sympoms?

Also, my AM radio has severe interference w/the engine running.

Any suggestions as to plug selection?
