Compressor seal is bad on my Porsche. When I get my 328 back together, my next job is the compressor seal replacement. The seals are very inexpensive. At the rate the 328 is going, it'll be fall and the AC won't be needed!

There was a discussion about this a while few months ago where someone on this board replaced the drier, compressor and maybe something else with off the shelf parts and saved a bundle.

Stop leak wont help.It will ruin the system. It is expensive and illegal to keep refilling. Find the leak first. Confirm its location go from there. Use flourescent dye. Now available at most auto stores. Recharge when it runs out in a week .Use ultraviolet light to find bright yellow leak areas.

I don't seem to be able to keep an R12 charge in my 328. I have a new dryer and expansion valve because the glass was filled with "mud". I hold a charge for about a week or so before it doesn't blow cool. I hot wired my condenser fan so it is on all of the time. It was not staying on for some reason. I am told that the usual leak is in the compressor seal - ouch! Can anyone tell me what the usual cost is to fix this? I'm guessing about $1,000. Also, has anyone tried using stop-leak? Is it possible to keep refilling the system yourself without the special reclaim/vacume machine? Any advice is appreciated.
