I have seen people spend a lot of money trouble shooting cooling systems when all they needed was a new cap. Ferrari caps are really bad, some are bad right out of the box, so take the cap down to NAPA (or similar) and get one for about $5. There is one for use on BMW's that works nicely. Sorry, I forgot the model. |

A good start would be to test the overflow tank cap...Without such a tester, I'd replace the cap first, and go from there... Regards, David |

I have an '89 328 with 28k miles. Recent 30k service done. Found that my cooling system needed frequent bleeding, then needed to be bled constantly. Would bleed it from both the radiator then the tstat housing, appropriately add fluid, and after a drive alot of fluid would be dumped out the overflow. Now, seems the system won't even pressurize, i.e. no hissing or peeing of fluid from the radiator bleed screw. Tstat housing still bleeds fine. Fans work, water pump seems to work. I've either got a blockage or a leak obviously (no water in the oil and compression is 190 on all cylinders). Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike |
