Well I got the job done, one problem, the part number off the 308 faq site was wrong. It was for the larger filter that are used on the one filtered cars like the QV's. So, the correct Purolater number is F54822. for 1980 308 with 2 fuel filters. Oh the purolator filter is made in Israel. The WIX were made in China. I looked at them too, but they were the same as the Purolators. I did not know it until I had them off. Well I got the bosch part number and started calling parts stores. Of course none had 2 or even one. So, I went down to Discount auto parts store returned the filters I had gotten Purolators. They had a cross refence to the bosch number in there systems, but were out of stock. So they gave me the new number and I had to go to two pepboys, because each had only one. Got them back on in an hour. Thanks for everyone's help. Kelly |

Bill, I think mine is different. I have a bracket that holds 2 filters. Since yours is an 83, isn't it a QV. Then I think you have one, and yes I have heard that it is a really pain. Good Luck, I'm going to do mine in the morning . |

Kelly, I am working on the same problem on a 83 308. The bottom fitting came right off. That top brass fitting is a pain in the ass. I am going to have my wife down in the pit with a 1-1/16 socket with 12" of extention to try to hold the filter steady while I try to loosen the top fitting. I've spent 2 hours on it so far. Is there a better way? My wife did say she wanted us to do someting together this weekend! |

ACHTUNG! Disconnect the battery! Ventilate the garage! Remove the gas cap before proceeding! Don't breath the fumes, esp. if it's oxygenated gas! Don't smoke! ACHTUNG! (Personally, I'd wait until the tank was a 1/4 to 1/8, but that's just me). |

Since I live on the MS LA Border, it's 75 miles across MS, then 69 across AL and you are at the 200 mile marker in FL. So, ALmost 400 miles |

You are welcome anytime...how far do you think you are from Tallahassee? As I've been doing more and more service work, I usually take notes and pictures as I go...kind of creating my own service manual. |

When you are done, write this up in detail for the Parts & Service section. |

I got this planned for tomorrow. Looks like I can disconnect the whole shootin match with just two nuts. Then take the bracket with both filter attached out and change both filters. Is this the best way to do it. Advise is always appreciated. Thanks Kelly Oh, I forgot. I'm at half tanks. If the top of the bottom bracket is below the fuel line of the tanks will the gas flow pass the fule pump. Thanks From the swamp.
