Cory What you are thinkinf of is the O-rings to reinforce the sealing of the head gaskets. What we are talking about here is the o-rings half way down the outside of the liners. Those can be tested without the heads |

I've never done this procedure, but you would think that without the heads installed the pressure would just blow out the o-rings.? |

I will do what you say. Except, I will cheat and pressure test only the block. I am hoping that will suffice. Got to remove the head studs to do that so it is somewhat of a pain anyway. |

Heat the block and chill the liners. Be very certain the O-rings don't "roll up" as you install the liners. I usually lubricate the O-rings with silicone grease or antrifreeze. Don't overlubricate, just a thin film. After installation, the liners need to protrude from the block (not flat or recessed). The protrusion may initially be in excess of the WSM spec until the liners are fully seated. When replacing the liners, a coolant jacket pressure test is fully necessary once the heads are installed.

I have removed all liners (had to build my own liner tool !!) and cleaned them thoroughly. What is the best method to install these o-rings? With Petroleum grease, or with RTV like permatex? or with nothing? |
