Those are actually the stock gaskets off the block. I already have new ones which I got from Dennis McCann, those are aftermarket. I have yet to check the trueness of the heads/block, so I'll take it from there.

Could you believe that the dealer here wanted $1400 Cdn for both gaskets! I s--- my pants when he told me that! So I got 'em from DM at $125 US each.

Hey PETER, Are those head gaskets shim or are they the thicker ones? If they are not shim maybe you could find a set of shim gaskets. Or maybe you're going to have the heads milled? Just asking, MAGOO

In order to get that magnet out you are probably going to have to remove the intake manifold and go through the open intake valve after turning the engine to open the valve. The magnet will either be on the cylinder wall or on the valve itself because the piston is aluminum. It will be nearly impossible to go through the spark plug hole to retrieve it. I tried it on the spare engine I have and I believe it will work.

If the part broken off is a magnet, Lamont has a great idea. MAGOO

LARRY, after thinking more about it I realized you have to go down through the plug well in the valve cover. The piece will more than likely be laying on the bottom of the cyl. edge. Attach a small magnet,"FIRMLY" on to a thin wire that is flexible enough to drop to the bottom of the cyl. when you enter the spark plug hole. Then good luck fishing. Be careful on extracting as not to pull the magnet off on the plug rim. HOPE IT WORKS, Magoo

Tie a steel nut (tight) on the end of a sting.

Larry, I did the same thing with a 450 SL Mercedes of mine. If you broke off part of the magnet maybe another magnet tool like that one will pick it up. What I did is I probed the cylinder with a rod until I located the piece which was at the bottom edge of the cyl. wall, then I took a small round wood dowel and super glued a pencil eraser on to the end of it. Then I put glue on the end of the eraser and placed it on top of the piece giving it a minute to dry and extracted it. The reason for the eraser is that the glue fuses quickly to the object. MAGOO

man, i can't believe how i messed up today. finding TDC, on #4 for timing; i broke off the tip of my tool magnet inside of the cylinder. i used it because it was the only retractable tool that i could extend once in the cylinder as to watch it reach TDC. any suggestions getting that bugger out?

nice work Peter.......doubt you want me helping out w/the motor

It's funny that you say that, it's the ad campaign for at least a dozen dealerships. "The cars are easy to sell, they sell themselves. Providing the service is the hard part." I don't know how many times I've seen that. Good call.

True, I guess they figure if someone wants a Ferrari, they know where to look. Its why you never see TV commercials and mag ads for Ferrari, they don't need to sell their product...it sells itself. But like Bret said, you can't have a car show without Ferrari, its just not the same.

The Mid Atlantic area is Corvette, Camaro, Chevelle, and Mustang country. If anyone should even see a Ferrari or any other exotic for that matter, they would not know what it was. It was a great show however, thousands of cars and about 6,000 vendors.

Day two Progress report:

Enzo himself breathed the holy breath on my hands and head two popped off with the same action...I'm going out right now for my lottery tickets...this streak of luck is paying big-time!

Larry: you'll apreciate it further by stopping by!

Bret & Herbert: There is something terribly wrong that the little car show here in lowly Vancouver has two Ferraris (a 360 Spyder no less!) and you guys missed out. NY state alone probably has more Ferraris than entire Canada, why aren't you guys getting the Ferraris!?!

How can you have a show without and Fcar? Unfortunately I think I am in the same boat as the NY auto show doesn't have Ferrari listed as being there, which is ridiculous.

Some people have all the luck. Mine ran out several years ago. Your planets seem to be aligned perfectly and I hope they stay for the reassembly and start up. Went to the big auto show in Charlotte N.C. today, and not a single Ferrari.

Yes Bret...removing the second head should deserve twice as much wine (using my math correctly). Right? I won't wait for your answer, I've already agreed with myself.

Good work, I think we all know what you mean when you sit there in anticipation hoping that it all goes well. I love the praying quote. It's always good to celebrate, so classy.

Today was an excellent day. Herbert, you maybe incredibly happy for me or incredibly jealous, but I removed the Sinistra cylinder head...BY HAND! Well actually a couple of taps from a rubber mallet eased it off.

I was so worried after reading all of those horror stories... My heart was beating like crazy, hands shaky, palms sweaty. All ten nuts, creek, creek, CRACK. The last one, then dribbling of coolant on the floor. Ahhh relief!

Today was just one head, tomorrow is Sunday, I pray to have the same success. "O Lord, doth Enzo shall guide thy hand in removing cylinder head number two..."

Sutter Home White Zinfandel 1998 flowed generously at the dinner table this evening...
