"Are the lifters wired/programmed to stay down if the headlamps are dead?" No. If the headlight circuit (the bulbs themselves) is "dead", the pods/buckets/housings should still go up. "In other words, should you still be able to turn on the headlamps even if they are still recessed?" No. They need to be lifted up in order to turn on headlights/parking lights (as stock, although some owners modify their electrics to turn on parking lights without raising the headlight pods). When I first bought my car, the fuses/relays were shot. One especially kept all external lighting from working. "Stribel SR 9833" Its a five-pin relay, whose centre pin is marked "87b". I replaced it with a Echlin/Neihoff (from NAPA) AR289. |

As I posted earlier, my lifters are "dead". Every now and then I can get them to pop up but then they go immediately back down. My question for you other 308 owners is: Are the lifters wired/programmed to stay down if the headlamps are dead? In other words, should you still be able to turn on the headlamps even if they are still recessed? I ask this because I have investigated the relays and fuses for the lifters already and they seem to check out. But...when I manually lifted the headlamps, they still would not turn on, nor would the parking lights. So I am wondering if this whole episode might be due to the headlamp relay failing (fuses checked out OK). Thanks for your help. If anyone wants to discuss this further with me via phone, my number is (806) 356-8442. Thanks again.... |
