Steve,

I just got through replacing the speedo-sensor on my 88TR.

I cut a 1 1/4" 12 point box-end wrench to a lenght of 7.5"....removed the oil filter....and then the sensor....lost about 2 quarts of geerbox fluid in a bucket, when the sensor came out. The new one did NOT come with a copper gasket, and the old one did.(I should have figured that the gasket would be extra)

Someone once stated that no fluid would come out.....he is obviously low on fluid. No big deal, since I have to drain it anyway, to replace a leaking half shaft seal ring, which I will now start on.

I cut the wrench with my plasma cutter.....took 4-5 seconds. This is really a neat piece of equipment. It was a lot easier then bending the wrench.

Thanks agoin for your help.

Steve: Thanks for the info.

David: Is the BB engine any easier to remove from the top, than the TR engine is from the bottom? I do have my own lift.

Ah ha,
The price you pay for having the engine "drop" out the bottom, versus the top on a BB.

Steve, appreciate the clarification...

Henryk -- This was my approach:

http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/1760.html

and you might need to remove the oil filter to get enough wrench swing.

David -- The problem is in doing it with the powerplant in the chassis. There's a crossmember right in the wrong place, and the nearby shape of the gearbox casting doesn't allow a socket to fit over the sender.

Tool?
What tool...?

Looks like a different setup than the BB, seems a 22mm? wrench would do the trick...

Even on the BB, no special tools needed. Just remove the drive holder and sender as a unit, by removing the single 8 mm bolt...Then separate the units out of the car.

Other than accessibilty issues, looks pretty straight forward..or am I missing something here?

Regards,
David

I need to replace the speedo-sensor on my 88TR. Does anyone have a picture of the tool that is used?

It appears that the same tool would be used for a Boxer......David, are you there?

Thanks.
