Peter is right. I left my tanks in, but ended up taking them out for a rebuild anyway so life could have been easier for me if I took them out before the engine. At least the passenger side tank will make it much easier getting to the header in front. Tons of things to do, but all are doable. Get an engine load balancer so that you can safely tilt the engine back and out. Some people remove the cluth housing (Peter, and I) before the engine comes out. Some people left it in. I think I will probably leave it in next time. Do a search and then you can ask specific questions. |

Zen, there are LOADS of postings in this site of various engine rebuilds and procedures, I suggest your first step is to use the "search" function (located on the black tool bar, bottom of this page). When I did mine: -Gas tanks (some people say you can leave them in, but to this day, I can't see their point. It gives you so much room to access the front header and besides, the tanks are normally sh--y looking anyways and could use repaints) -Accessories (alt, A/C pump, starter) -Headers -Bellhousing/clutch -Half shafts -Distributors/air-box/carbs Plus various hoses, cables and electrical lines. Yes, engine must be lifted out an angle (by grabbing it by the front, above the forward intake), as the GT4 engine-bay opening is smaller than the engine. |

I plan to pull the engine out of my 308GT4. Wondering if anyone out there has done this. I'm interested in knowing if there is a technical sequence that needs to be followed such as pulling certain parts off first, i.e. gas tanks, exhaust headers, etc., before removal. Also, does the engine have to be rotated a cetain way for clearence? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
