Check jegs.com They have tons of hi-po and dragster stuff. All sorts of braided lines, hoses and fittings. |

Yeah that was my thought about that long (and large diameter for vacuum) booster hose. I think that one is worth picking up some OEM style hose, the others though I'll with aftermarket stuff. |

I would be a little leary of what kind of hose I used for the brake booster in that it could collapse under engine vacuum. A good silicone hose or heavy duty hose will work fine in other locations for coolant and use only hose that is designed for fuel in gasoline transporting hoses. |

Are the braided hoses necessary? I know for originality's sake yes, but do they have any advantage or requirements that a normal rubber hose couldn't meet? |

Call George Evans at Evans Automotive in Columbus. I just bought 4 mm, 6 mm, and 20 mm I.D. black cloth braided hose from him and it matches the original stuff. 4 & 6 are $6.00/ft and 20 mm is $13.00/ft. His # is 614-471-7535. |

Find a local guy who deals in European cars, they probably have a Wurth or Winzer rep supply them, both companies sell the braide hose in all sizes, also the larger are available at a Porsche specialist. |

Hi, my name is Don McCormick, I live just outside Kansas City, MO and I have just bought a red 1979 308 GTS with 20k miles on it. Great shape but it has the problems of a car that has not been driven much, all of which I knew about from this website although thankfully not many oil leaks (yet) It is in my garage and I have already torn into it as it needed to have the timing belts replaced, new water pump after the old one seized up after my first long drive after buying it (Nick, whom I learned about on this web site, is rebuilding it and porting it for me). The car also needs a new clutch which I am installing as well. There has been so much information on this website and other locations that I don't really have a lot of questions about doing those major things and am really enjoying doing the work. This car is a lot easier to work on than the 1970 914-6 I had for years. So much more access and so much cooler. Anyway my questions really revolve around getting hoses for the car as I have decided to replace virtually all the hoses in the car while I have it all apart. I have found the fabled Gates Green stripe hose 1.5" ID locally and it seemed to match up to the old hose for size but when I got it back home I found that this hose is really just a bit too big, maybe 1/8"bigger in diameter than I need. Will a well tightened clamp take up this slack? Or how about a piece of rubber sheet applied to the tube or outlet to beef up its diameter. This last is not my first choice but.... Also was looking for the black exterior braided gas and vapor lines and was told by Ferrari (not that I want to get into the habit of buying parts from Ferrari) that they were not made anymore. Any sources you know for this type of hose? I could not find at a local Carquest (which did carry the Gates Green stripe ) the exact size of fuel line but I did find the vapor line(non exterior braided of course). Also can't find the vacuum line that goes from the engine all the way up to the power brake master assembly at the front of the car. Yes, I am going to replace that line and the heater hose that goes up the driver's side rocker area when I remove the gas tank to make it easier to do the clutch. Sorry for the long message but I am stumped for now and would like to start putting this baby back together again as all of the major parts are starting to arrive. This website is a great source of information about Ferraris and how to work on them. In no small part my descision to switch from Porsche to Ferrari was based on the information and comraderie that seems to exist in this virtual community and because the carbed car I bought seemed to be the newest really cool sports car I could buy on which I really felt confident I could do virtually all of the work-no electronics-no fuel injection-and almost no plastic parts. No wonder this two seater is so heavy-about 1200lbs heavier than the 914-6 but over twice as much HP and 2 more Weber carb throats. I must say I was surprised to see the verbal altercation the other night on this website. Surely that should stop as this website is something pretty rare and it would be a shame to lose some of the great comraderie and knowledge on tap here or potentially have the website self destruct. Anyway, if there are answers out there on the hoses please let me know when you can Don |
