EGR systems usually dump at most about 15% exhaust gas to dilute mixture, I don't think it would affect it that much if it were disconnected.

You are correct, with no vacuum, the valve remains shut.

Maybe something else has upset the mixture since the installation (?...).

The previous owner of my 82 308qv Euro model had an EGR Valve in one of the intermediate pipes. The vacuum line to it had been disconnected prior to my buying the car and therefore I assumed that with the vacuum line disconnected the valve would be completely shut and no exhaust gases were flowing to the intake although the exhaust gas line was still connected to the intake plenum.

When I installed a new Tubi exhaust recently I replaced the intermediate pipes without an EGR valve and blocked off the old exhaust gas line entering the intake plenum.

The car now runs very rich to the point of fouling the plugs within 3-5 minutes.

Is it possible that some small amount of exhaust gases were actually entering the intake plenum from the old EGR valve and leaning the overall air/fuel mixture. And now without that effect I need to adjust the air/fuel mixture to compensate?

Thoughts?
